AS Monaco can go level on points with a road win over Strasbourg this weekend, but they haven’t won at the Stade de la Meinau since 2018. Strasbourg have been one of the most surprising teams in Ligue 1 and are just three points away from the top three.
The soccer odds are predicting a close one as this match is listed as a pick’em. Expect an exciting game on Sunday as a result.

Strasbourg vs Monaco Head to Head
AS Monaco have dominated the all-time series but Strasbourg have been a better pick to bet online in recent seasons. The Alsace club have lost just once to Monaco in the last seven meetings and have four wins and two draws in that span. Earlier this season, these teams drew 1-1 in Monaco.
Surprising Strasbourg Contending for UCL
In nine Ligue 1 matches since the beginning of 2022, Strasbourg have just one loss. They’ve been one of the more surprising soccer picks as of late and are still Champions League contenders with just 11 matches remaining. They’ve drawn three consecutive matches but fifth-place Strasbourg are just three points behind Marseille for the third and final UCL place.
Last weekend, they weren’t able to hold onto a 1-0 lead at Reims and conceded a late goal as both teams shared the spoils. In their last home match, Strasbourg shut out second-place Nice, but couldn’t take advantage of the fact that the visitors finished the match with nine men. Still, Strasbourg haven’t lost at home for three months and can compete with any team in the league.
Forget about the Champions League: Strasbourg haven’t played in the group stage of any UEFA competition since 2005-06. It’d be a huge achievement if former Rennes manager Julien Stephan is able to guide them to a UCL berth in his first season as head coach.
Ludovic Ajorque has reached the 10-goal mark for a second consecutive season while Habib Diallo and Kevin Gameiro are both on nine Ligue 1 goals. Only PSG and Rennes have scored more goals than Strasbourg and they’ve scored in eight of their last nine matches.
Their offense could take a hit this weekend as Adrien Thomasson, who has seven goals this season, will miss the match with a thigh injury. Defender Maxime Le Marchand is also set to miss out.
Monaco Struggling to Score
Monaco faced Braga in the Europa League Round of 16 on Thursday and are taking a 2-0 deficit into the second leg. Braga wasted no time getting on the scoresheet as Abel Ruiz struck within three minutes. Monaco did their best to equalize, but Gelson Martins and Wissam Ben Yedder both had goals called back for offsides.
Alexander Nubel was excellent in net for Monaco, denying the hosts on a number of opportunities. However, he could do nothing about Vitinha’s 89th-minute header that doubled Braga’s lead. It was a disappointing result for Monaco and they have a big mountain to climb in the second leg.
The Monegasques have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions, but the solitary win was a big one. I was dead wrong about Monaco’s chances vs Marseille last weekend as Monaco got a huge 1-0 road win to put them within six points of the Champions League places. Martins scored the game’s only goal and the Portuguese midfielder looked similarly dangerous at Braga.
During this six-game stretch, Monaco are averaging under a goal per game and were also recently knocked out of the Coupe de France on penalties by Nantes. Despite the rough patch of form, Monaco have lost just four times in all competitions since October in normal time.
Philippe Clement would love to see more out of second striker Kevin Volland, who has failed to score in his last five appearances and has just five Ligue 1 goals. Monaco have relied too much on Ben Yedder, who has 15 of their 40 Ligue 1 goals.
Cesc Fabregas has barely played a part this season and he’ll miss this match with an injury.
Strasbourg vs Monaco Prediction
With just two days of rest heading into this match, it’s going to be a tough one for Monaco. With the knowledge that they can go level on points with Strasbourg if they win, don’t count out Monaco just yet.
Note that Strasbourg average over two goals per game at home and haven’t been shut out by Monaco in any of the last eight meetings. Monaco were unlucky to score vs Braga and I doubt they’ll be shut out in two consecutive matches. Both teams should get on the scoresheet and we should see over 2½ come through for online gambling.
