Freiburg Seeks to Bounce Back
After losing 3-1 at home against Dortmund last weekend, Freiburg is determined to bounce back when they travel to play Stuttgart on Saturday. Our sportsbook is offering the best markets and bonuses for the German Bundesliga.
Stuttgart: Decent start
Stuttgart avoided the dreaded relegation playoff by virtue of goal difference last season. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s troops will be eager to show that the last domestic campaign was a mistake and that they are better than that. They were encouraged by gaining a draw against RB Leipzig on the opening day, holding the DFB Pokal winners to a 1-1 draw.
Last weekend, they played Werder Bremen on the road and were very unlucky not to return home with the three points as they conceded the equalizer in the last second of the match. Silas finally scored a goal after a 20-month drought. With two points earned in the opening two games of the new season, Stuttgart is sitting 11th in the standings. If you’re betting online, Stuttgart is still one of the teams to fade this season.
They will host Freiburg on Saturday and Matarazzo will be determined to keep his squad settled as they look to win their first match of the new campaign. Probably their most important player last season, Sasa Kalajdzic, failed to find the back of the net in the last two Bundesliga games but the Austrian international already offered two assists. In the final year of his contract, Kalajdzic is thought to be of interest to Manchester United as Erik ten Hag looks to bolster his forward line. However, Austria head coach and former United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said Kalajdzic’s development would not be harmed if he stayed at Stuttgart.
Freiburg: European Side
Freiburg is no longer the top-flight minnows. Instead, they are very much a force to be reckoned with, particularly on home turf. After destroying Augsburg in Matchday 1, beating them 4-0 on the road, Freiburg gradually grew last weekend into Dortmund’s clash and took the lead in the first half. They looked very organized and in control of the game for 77 minutes. Dortmund teenager Bynoe-Gittens came off the bench and hit a long-range shot, with the ball slipping through the keeper’s fingers and into the net. It was a moment that changed the squad’s energy and confidence in Dortmund’s 3-1 win.
Freiburg scored more headed goals than any other Bundesliga team last season and lead the way this term as well with two. On the day before the first home game of the season, Freiburg’s Christian Streich was presented with the trophy for Coach of the Year 2022. Despite the loss to Dortmund, Freiburg set the tone for what could be another memorable season. Freiburg had a sensational 2021-22 campaign, finishing sixth in the Bundesliga and reaching the DFB Cup final for the first time.
They narrowly missed out on a Champions League spot but they will compete in the Europa League group stages. We expect Freiburg to sustain the same level of performance for now, but we also believe they will have some issues when the UEL will kick off because their squad depth is not the best one. We will continue to include them in our soccer picks and parlays.
They still have two weeks at their disposal to add some extra quality to their squad and approach the European season with much better depth. In Christian Streich, they have a coach who’s been there since 2012, who has been able to work continuously and who has done a very good job. Where they have definitely developed is that they’re always able to compensate for the players who leave.
Stuttgart vs Freiburg Head-to-Head
Freiburg managed to win their previous four Bundesliga head-to-heads against Stuttgart, including a double win last season, both home and away. They scored at least twice in each of their last six top-flight league encounters against Saturday’s opponents. We’ve seen at least three goals in the last 12 Bundesliga clashes between the two sides with both teams contributing on the scoresheet on eight occasions. Stuttgart’s last victory against Freiburg came in 2020, a 1-0 win in the DFB Pokal.

We expect a high-scoring affair with Freiburg eager to bounce back following their 3-1 defeat to Dortmund and with Stuttgart determined to win their first match. Freiburg has the edge on their opponents, but we recommend you don’t risk a straight bet on them; instead, take them with PK. The two sides are producing entertaining clashes when they face each other so the best way to approach this clash is to go with the overs.
