This Is It: Bet on LAFC to Defeat Messi, Inter Miami

Cancel Your Sunday Night Plans

Last Wednesday, Inter Miami failed to win with Lionel Messi as a starter, managing a scoreless draw against Nashville SC. Yes, at least they didn’t lose, but keep in mind that since Messi started playing, Inter Miami is 6-4-0 in regulation. All four draws were against teams currently in the MLS playoffs zone.

This Sunday, they’ll face a team that’s not only in the playoffs zone but is fighting for first place in the Western Conference. Oh! And they’re the reigning champions. No wonder Los Angeles FC comes in as the soccer betting favorite at -107.

Here are the reasons why I think Inter Miami’s non-losing streak will come to an end on Saturday night.

Inter Miami has suffered against more experienced teams. In that regard, Los Angeles FC is atop the list. We’re talking about a roster that includes Carlos Vela, Denis Bouanga, Mario Gonzalez, Aaron Long and John McCarthy, to name a few.

Bouanga has scored 12 goals. Only Hany Mukhtar from Nashville SC and Luciano Acosta from CF Cincinnati have scored more with 13. Vela has scored nine goals and leads the team in assists with seven. Finally, McCarthy is among the best keepers in the league thanks to eight clean sheets, only three less than Steve Clark, who’s atop the list.

As you can see, LAFC has a lot of weapons. More than enough to offer a +800 price in our MLS lines to repeat as champions. Inter Miami is listed at +700, but let’s be honest, that’s only because of Messi. LAFC doesn’t depend on a single player.

BMO Stadium

Last weekend, LAFC lost 2-1 to Charlotte FC. The match was in Charlotte and LAFC finished with more shots on goal. In other words, they deserved at least one point but weren’t effective in front of goal. We all have bad days at our jobs.

Things were completely different in their last home game, crushing the Colorado Rapids 4-0. Four different players scored, and the defense limited the visitors to only four shots on goal.

LAFC scored two or more goals in each of its last five games at home. That includes a 7-1 victory over Juarez in the Leagues Cup. Seven goals to a Liga MX team? Sounds easy, but it’s not.

Finally, Vela and company only lost three of their last 25 MLS games at home.

LAFC Dominates Head-to-Head

Here’s another reason for LAFC to be our betting online favorite. These two have met twice and LAFC won both. First, 1-0 at home with Vela as the scorer. Later, 2-0 in Florida. In that second meeting, Inter Miami played with 10 players the entire second half after Brek Shea was sent off right before halftime.

Inter Miami hasn’t even been able to score against LAFC, and Wednesday’s match was the second in which Messi wasn’t able to score. People are saying that he’s already thinking about Argentina’s national team. After Sunday’s match, Messi will travel to Argentina for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, and he doesn’t want to get hurt.

Take a Chance: Bet Los Angeles FC Moneyline

With Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba on board, you can forget about Inter Miami being humiliated. However, I think LAFC is the perfect team for the job of introducing Messi to his first defeat in America. Regarding the score, I like 2-1.
