Tottenham vs Chelsea 2022 EFL Cup Semifinals Game Preview, Live Stream, Odds, Picks & Predictions

Chelsea remains in the English Premier League and UEFA Champions League title races. But let’s be honest, the Blues aren’t the betting online favorites to win either of those competitions.

Their best shot at winning something for Chelsea is the EFL Cup. After beating Tottenham in the first leg of the semifinals, the Blues could even lose the second leg by one goal and still advance, but the Spurs have other plans.

Chelsea Slightly Favored in EFL Cup Semis

Tottenham’s Best Shot

This is also Tottenham’s best shot at winning something. The Spurs are turning things around in the EPL, but it might be too late. They’re sitting in sixth place, 20 points behind first-place Manchester City.

Signing Antonio Conte as Tottenham’s manager was the best decision. The Italian has done a great job in re-establishing a winning mentality, just like he did when coaching Inter Milan. He also has done a great job motivating the team’s superstars, Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min.

Their 2-0 defeat ito Chelsea n the first leg was Conte’s first loss as Tottenham’s manager, domestically. Including the EPL, EFL Cup and FA Cup, the Spurs are 7-3-1 since he took over.

Most recently, they defeated Morecambe 3-1 to advance to the fourth round of the FA Cup. Kane, Lucas Moura and Harry Winks were the scorers. Chelsea can’t be compared to Morecambe, but this is also a do-or-die match.

“These are the games where you have to be professional in the first 10 minutes, play properly and effectively to take control as soon as possible,” said Winks in an interview.

Despite a recent COVID-19 outbreak in the EPL, there are no major absences/injuries to report. That makes them an even more tempting soccer betting underdog, especially at +175.

Tottenham’s predicted lineup: Hugo Lloris; Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Ben Davies; Japhet Tanganga, Oliver Skipp, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Sergio Reguilon; Lucas Moura, Son Heung-Min, Harry Kane.

Chelsea’s Comfortable Advantage

Talking about playing properly and effectively, the Blues took the first leg very seriously. Manager Thomas Tuchel changed the system to 4-2-2-2, but it was basically 4-2-4. Hakim Ziyech and Mason Mount, who played in midfield, are pretty much two extra strikers.

The Blues won the first leg 2-0 with goals from Kai Havertz and Ben Davies (own goal). Their roster is so talented that Mateo Kovacic, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Ruben Loftus-Cheek came off the bench.

We’re also talking about a well-balanced team. So balanced that the Blues haven’t lost in their last 10 games in all competitions. Most recently, they also advanced in the FA Cup after crushing Chesterfield 5-1.

Romelu Lukaku and Werner scored in that match, allowing the two center strikers to regain some confidence. Plus, several starters didn’t play, which means they all will have fresher legs to face Tottenham.

The Blues deserve to control the Las Vegas odds at +160. If you include them in your soccer picks ($100 bet), and they managed to win, your payout would be $260. Not bad, right? Only the EFL can offer that kind of deal.

Chelsea’s predicted lineup: Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta, Malang Sarr, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso; Saul Niguez, Jorginho, Hakim Ziyech, Mason Mount; Kai Havertz, Romelu Lukaku.

Besides the first leg, Tottenham and Chelsea met once in the EPL. The Blues had no trouble beating the Spurs on the road 3-0. Curiously enough, all goals were scored by defensive players, Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante, and Antonio Rudiger.

Last season, Tottenham eliminated Chelsea in the Round of 16, but the game ended 1-1. They won the penalty shootout 5-4. Having clarified that, Chelsea hasn’t lost to Tottenham in their last eight meetings.

Tottenham vs Chelsea Prediction

The EFL Cup is often forgotten, but with a game like this, it’s impossible. Chelsea is the better team, no doubt about it, but Tottenham won’t fall easily. With Kane, Heung-Min and Lukaku on the field, I expect the total to go over. We’re talking about three of the best center forwards in the world. Nevertheless, my sport betting advice is to go with the draw. Both have tough EPL matchups this weekend and that could influence their game plan.

Score Prediction: Tottenham 2, Chelsea 2

Pick: Draw (+235)
