Ups & Downs
Prior to the start of the season, expectations around Tottenham were extremely high. After all, they signed one of the best coaches in Antonio Conte, and their attacking unit is led by Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Well, they haven’t met all expectations, but they remain title contenders in both the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
As for Sporting Lisbon, the Lions have had more downs than ups recently, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re a tempting online gambling underdog, especially at +550.
Tottenham: Rough Patch
Tottenham are third in the English Premier League, five points behind Arsenal and three points behind Manchester City. Not bad, right? Well, no, because they lost their last two matches and they’ve played one more game than the Gunners and Citizens.
Last Sunday, they lost 2-1 to Newcastle. I hope you took my colleague Alex’s advice of including the over 2½ goals in the match at -125. Newcastle scored twice in a nine-minute span while Kane scored for the Spurs, who couldn’t complete the comeback.
Prior to that, Tottenham lost 2-0 to Manchester United. Not to be disrespectful with the Red Devils, but the Spurs should have won. Three weeks earlier, City had no trouble crushing United 6-3.
Things have been a bit different in the UCL. They are atop the standings in Group D with a 2-1-1 record. Most recently, they defeated Frankfurt, the reigning UEFA Europa League champs, 3-2. Heung-min was the Man of the Match after scoring a brace while Kane sealed the deal from the penalty spot. I told you, what a duo!
The Spurs dominate the soccer lines thanks to a -200 price, which is a great deal considering they’ve won seven of their last eight games at home.
Sporting Lisbon: Deflating?
Sporting Lisbon won their first two UCL games by a 5-0 aggregate. After that, they lost twice to Marseille by a 6-1 aggregate. As if that wasn’t enough, Pedro Goncalves and Ricardo Esgaio were sent off in the last match, meaning they won’t be able to play in London.
The good news is that goalkeeper Antonio Adan will return after missing the last game due to suspension. In other words, we might be talking about a very talented but undisciplined team.
Most recently, they regained some confidence by defeating Casa Pia 3-1 in the Primeira Liga. They took 25 shots in total and 10 on target, meaning production isn’t a problem. They’re fourth in the Primeira Liga and they were eliminated from the Portuguese Cup two weeks ago, meaning that a UEFA tourney is their best shot at winning something.
The Lions are the betting online underdogs at +550, meaning a $100 wager could turn into a $650 payout. They’re 4-2-4 in their last 10 games on the road. They scored in eight of those games and finished with a clean sheet three times. In other words, they’re more than capable of putting up a good fight.
Tottenham vs Sporting Lisbon Head-to-Head
The first leg in Lisbon finished with a 2-0 victory for Sporting Lisbon, but Tottenham almost got away with a point. Joao Paulo scored the opener in the 90th minute while Arthur sealed the deal three minutes later.
Overall, the Spurs are 8-2-5 against teams from Portugal, with 29 goals for and 19 against. On the other hand, the Lions are 10-9-13 against English clubs, scoring 39 and allowing 40.

Tottenham vs Sporting Lisbon Prediction
Sporting Lisbon are used to putting up a good fight. The problem is that they’ll travel to London without their best player in Goncalves, who leads the team in goals and assists with six and three, respectively. On the other hand, the Spurs have Kane and Heung-min, who have combined for 16 goals in the EPL and the UCL. Therefore, it should be a comfortable victory for the Spurs, precisely our soccer prediction.
Score Prediction: Tottenham 2, Sporting Lisbon 0
