They last met, twice, in the 2017-18 season, right before Troyes was relegated to Ligue 2. PSG won both meetings 2-0. Neymar and Angel Di Maria, who remain in the team, scored one goal each.
PSG hasn’t lost to Troyes in their last 10 meetings. They own an 8-2-0 record, 28 goals for and only five against. They scored in every game and finished with a clean sheet five times.
Troyes defeated PSG for the last time in the 2001-02 season.
Why bet on Troyes?
Winning Ligue 2 may sound easy, but it’s not. Last season, Troyes finished at the top of the pack with 77 points thanks to a 23-8-7 record. Defensively, they finished with the league’s second-best record after allowing 36 goals.
Individually, Yoann Touzghar finished as the team’s top scorer, third overall, with 16 goals. He joined the team in 2018 and has scored 34 goals in 86 games. He should be PSG’s main concern.
They don’t have the kind of money PSG does, but they also invested during the offseason. They signed Metinho, Mama Balde, Renaud Ripart, Rominigue Koumane, and Mykola Kukharevych. Three of them used to play for another Ligue 1 team, providing the roster with more experience.
Their preseason included six friendly matches. They finished with a 1-2-3 record, seven goals for and 11 against. They scored at least one goal in five of those games. Most recently, they drew 1-1 to Bordeaux, another Ligue 1 team.
Their expected lineup is Gauthier Gallon; Rayan Raveloson, Jimmy Giraudon, Yoann Salmier; Metinho, Rominigue Kouame, Florian Tardieu, Tristan Dingome, Maxime Barthelme; Dylan Chambost, Yoann Touzghar.
Against PSG you’re likely to be the sports betting underdog, as in this case. Nevertheless, the beginning of the season is the perfect time to catch them off guard and achieve a good result.
Why Bet on PSG?
Just take a quick peek at their renewed roster. In addition to Neymar, Mbappe, Di Maria, Presnel Kimpembe, now includes Gigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi, and Georginio Wijnaldum.
This is their best roster in years and should be more than enough to win the domestic title. Nevertheless, that was what they thought last year, and they finished as the runners-up, one point behind LOSC Lille.
PSG’s preseason also included six games, and they finished with a 3-2-1 record. Their only loss was against Lille in the French Super Cup. They scored at least two goals in four games and finished with a clean sheet twice.
“It’s a new season, I’m happy with my players; attitudes. We’ll be better when we have the full squad available,” said manager Mauricio Pochettino after the game.
I don’t expect Donnarumma to play right away, but the rest of the reinforcements could. Ramos’ leadership will be huge for them, while Hakimi’s a huge improvement at right back, especially when attacking.
Their expected lineup is Keylor Navas; Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos, Presnel Kimpembe, Abdou Diallo; Danilo Pereira, Georginio Wijnaldum, Leandro Paredes; Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi, Angel Di Maria.
Final Analysis and Predictions
You know PSG will go all-in from the start. They don’t want any surprises, and the new faces are eager to prove they came here to stay. The first match of the season is always tough, but PSG’s roster depth should make it a little easier.
Troyes will play on the counterattack, so you can expect PSG to control the ball and the scoring chances. Defensively, Navas doesn’t want to lose the job to Donnarumma, so he must play at his best from the start. Don’t forget to check the Soccer Props to increase your winning chances.
