Unbeaten Brazil Visits Colombia

Home Side in a Must-Win Situation in World Cup Qualifier

There’s only one way for Brazil to miss the 2022 World Cup and that’s to suspend the tournament. Mathematically, the Brazilians would have to lose all remaining games, and that’s not going to happen. They’ve been so good that now they’re focusing on rewriting history by finishing the World Cup Qualifiers with nothing else than victories.

On the other hand, Colombia is battling to keep hope alive. Not losing in its last six games wasn’t enough to get into the top four. The top four teams qualify directly, while fifth place must play a series against a team from another confederation. Now you know why Colombia is in a must-win situation.

I’m just gonna say it: Colombia has never beaten Brazil in World Cup Qualifiers. They’ve met 12 times and Brazil owns a 6-6-0 record, with 20 goals for and only five against. This will be their first meeting on the road to Qatar 2022.

They met for the last time in the Copa America 2021. Brazil came from behind to win 2-1 on a late goal from Casemiro. The total has gone over two goals in four of their last six meetings in all competitions.

Colombia beat Brazil for the last time in 2015.

Humble Streak

Colombia has six straight games without losing but won only twice in that span. Most recently, they drew Uruguay, not bad considering it was on the road. Also, they were facing one of the best attacking duos in the region in Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.

That result confirms their defensive improvement. During their non-losing streak, they allowed more than one goal only once. Prior to that, they allowed six goals in one game, and it wasn’t against a powerhouse.

Having improved defensively right before facing Brazil it’s huge. It’s not enough to be the betting online favorites, but nothing is enough when you’re facing Brazil.

After a rocky start, head coach Reinaldo Rueda took over and he has done a great job, mentally and tactically. Calling Radamel Falcao back is among his best decisions. El Tigre is a certified winner and the youngsters idolize him. Playing with such a historic figure is a boost to their confidence and motivation.

Beating Brazil for the first time in the WCQ should also be enough motivation to go all-in from the start. It’s not going to be easy, but Colombia has a very talented roster. So talented that Rueda didn’t feel the need to call James Rodriguez.

They’re not afraid to attack. Los Cafeteros scored at least one goal in six of their last seven games. Only Brazil and Ecuador have scored more goals. Brazil isn’t used to facing offensive teams, which means that could be the key to surprise them.

Not Fair

You’ll never be wrong by including Brazil among your soccer picks. They have so many talented players that it’s almost not fair. Most recently, they beat Venezuela 3-1 even though Neymar wasn’t available.

Having such a talented and deep roster has made the difference. Brazil sits in first place with 29 points thanks to a 9-0-0 record, 22 goals for and only three against. They own the best offensive and defensive record in the WCQ. I told you, almost not fair.

With an eight-point advantage over second place, head coach Tite has been clear: Players who don’t usually play will have an opportunity. The thing is that no matter who plays, Brazil will always be a competitive side.

Vinicius Junior, Antony, Alex Sandro, Emerson and Raphinha came off the bench against Venezuela. Eder Militao didn’t play. As if raw talent wasn’t enough, they also have the physical advantage.

Brazil has been having a dispute with the English Premier League regarding the players. Nevertheless, Tite was also clear on that and they’ll remain with the team for this game and the match against Uruguay.

“They were called up for the three games. Them going back earlier was never a possibility,” said the head coach to the press. Never to underestimate any rival has been the key for Brazil’s success.

Brazil hasn’t won the World Cup since 2002. Neymar and company know they’re in debt, which is why they want to crush anyone who crosses their path.

Final Analysis, Predictions

Brazil relaxed a little against Venezuela. They can’t do that against Colombia, at least not if they want to remain unbeaten. Colombia can’t afford to lose, otherwise Paraguay could surpass them. They’ve a much more accessible game against Chile. In summary, expect a back-and-forth battle. Both will score, but the total won’t go over. If there’s a team who can win a point against Brazil, other than Argentina, it is Colombia — especially when playing at home.
