USA and Panama Vying for Places in World Cup
In a hugely important match for both teams, the USA plays host to Panama on Sunday night in Orlando. As things currently stand, Panama are on the outside looking in and basically need all three points to stay in the hunt for the World Cup. Meanwhile, the USA needs to avoid an implosion not to qualify as three points in one of their last two matches would likely do the trick. Coming into this much-anticipated match, USA are the clear soccer betting favorites.
Let’s check the latest news, stats, injury reports, and CONCACAF World Cup Qualifier odds for USA vs Panama. We’ve plenty of predictions for you to consider.

USA Nearing First World Cup Since 2014
The USA drew with Mexico 0-0 on Thursday night as El Tri keeper Guillermo Ochoa made some big stops to keep the game scoreless. With both Weston McKennie and Sergiño Dest out with injuries, it was a good result for Gregg Berhalter’s men and they were able to cover the spread for a second match in a row. However, they’ve been one of the more mediocre soccer picks during their qualification campaign at 5-6-1 ATS.
Christian Pulisic had a golden chance before halftime but Ochoa saved the left-footed shot from point-blank range with a reflex stop. Pulisic, Ricardo Pepi and Tim Weah led the line for the USA vs. Mexico and caused problems at times. Berhalter has leaned on youth during his tenure and that shouldn’t change anytime soon.
A win here would ensure the U.S. finish no lower than fourth, so they’d have an opportunity to play in the intercontinental playoff, at the least. With a challenging match at Costa Rica in their closer, this is an excellent opportunity for the Stars and Stripes to pick up three points.
Qualification Slipping Away from Panama
Facing Honduras, the last-place team in the final round of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers, Panama could only manage a 1-1 draw on Thursday. Despite coming in as the favorites, Panama were unable to get all three points vs. a winless Honduras team.
With Costa Rica’s win over Canada, Panama are now one point outside of the intercontinental playoff spot. With matches vs. the USA and Canada on the horizon, Panama are in a precarious position.
Rolando Blackman scored for the first time in his last five matches but Los Canaleros have won just one of their last four matches. They’ve also been a poor pick to bet online on the road and have compiled just a 2-4 SU record in those matches.
USA vs Panama Head-to-Head
Panama won the last meeting as Anibal Godoy scored the game’s only goal in October’s World Cup qualifier. USA’s loss broke a four-game winning streak vs. Panama and they hadn’t lost to Los Canaleros since 2015.
USA haven’t lost to Panama on home soil in a 90-minute match since 2011 and have outscored Panama 19-7 in the last ten meetings.

USA vs Panama Prediction
The US are 1½-goal favorites despite losing to Panama in the reverse fixture. Just one of Panama’s losses in their campaign has come by more than a one-goal margin. Panama ATS wouldn’t be the worst pick but it is a bit pricey at -145.
Berhalter’s men are listed at -250 and there’s a good chance that if they score, they’ll win the game. Ochoa’s save on Pulisic was the biggest moment of their match vs. Mexico and finishing has been a bit of a problem recently.

Even with their issues in front of goal, the US have been excellent defensively as the duo of Walker Zimmerman and Miles Robinson have been a great center back pairing. They’ve kept shutouts in four of their six previous home matches and three in their last four overall.
That makes the totals potentially worth a look as Panama may not get too many sniffs at goal and the US are a bit unreliable. Combined, these teams have averaged just two goals per game over their last four matches. At even odds in the sportsbook, under 2½ is an interesting play and the best of this game’s slate.
