Women’s World Cup 2023: England vs Colombia Prediction, Preview, Stream Odds and Picks

England has never played in the Women’s World Cup 2023 final, but in the last two editions, the Lionesses finished in the top four. That’s why they currently are the soccer betting favorites (+240) to win the title in Australia-New Zealand.

Nevertheless, their quarterfinals matchup won’t be easy. First, Colombia is led by one of the best players in the tournament. Second, England will be without Lauren James.

England: Pressure as Favorite

With the United States out of the picture, all the pressure related to winning the title fell on England. The good news is that the Lionesses are used to the pressure. Let’s not forget that we’re talking about the reigning UEFA Women’s European champions.

Regarding the WWC, the Lionesses have been able to meet expectations, but they were almost eliminated in the Round of 16. After winning Group D with a perfect record, eight goals for and only one against, they faced Nigeria in the first round of the knockout stages. The match against the African side finished 0-0 and the Lionesses ended up winning the penalty shootout 4-2.

The bad news is that Lauren James was sent off for stamping on Michelle Alozie. Despite being only 21, James already is one of the best strikers in the world. She’s going to be missed since she’s the team’s top scorer in the tournament with three goals. She also leads the team in assists with three.

Even with James out, the Lionesses come in as the betting online favorites at -190, which tells you how good they are. After all, they only lost one of their last 20 games in all competitions and it was a friendly match.

Colombia: Dark Horse

Prior to the start of the tournament, Colombia wasn’t among the favorites to win the title. In fact, Las Cafeteras weren’t even considered a dark horse. That started to change during the group stage, in which they defeated South Korea and Germany to win Group H.

Most recently, they suffered a bit more than expected but still beat Jamaica in the Round of 16. The match finished 1-0 thanks to Maria Usme, who scored at the beginning of the first half. The defensive unit also deserves some credit since the Reggae Girlz never stopped trying.

We want more. It’s not our ceiling, now we are thinking about England, which is going to be a dream match. … (There is) the certainty that we can achieve more in this World Cup,” said Usme during the post-match interview.

Needless to say, they’re highly motivated. Plus, unlike James, Colombia’s top player will be on the pitch. We’re talking about Linda Caicedo, who plays for Real Madrid and has scored two goals in the tournament.

Regarding the soccer lines, Las Cafeteras are offering a +650 price, which gives you the chance of winning $650 per every $100 wagered. Considering Las Cafeteras have only conceded two goals, that’s a great deal. Finally, as mentioned before, don’t forget that they already pulled off a stunner against a powerhouse, defeating two-time champions Germany 2-1.

England vs Colombia Head-to-Head

This won’t be the first meeting between these two. England defeated Colombia 2-1 during the group stage of the 2015 WWC. Karen Carney and Fara Williams scored for the Lionesses while Lady Andrade scored for Las Cafeteras. Andrade already had some minutes in the current edition.

Regarding Saturday’s encounter, the total is set at two goals with the over offering a -120 price in the soccer odds. Keep in mind that the total has gone over two goals in only one of Colombia’s four matches. Same for England.

England vs Colombia Picks and Prediction

Yes, James will be missed, but let’s not forget that England’s roster also includes Alessia Russo and Lauren Hemp. Both already scored and Russo leads the team in most attempts at goal with 13. Colombia will put up a good fight and will even score, but this will be the end of the journey for Las Cafeteras. The Lionesses will win 2-1, which is why you should include the over in your soccer picks. It’s offering a better price than the moneyline.
