Wide Open Premier League Title Race
The 2023-24 Premier League title race promises to treat fans with the best finish to an English top-flight campaign in recent memory with three clubs neck-and-neck at the top.
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City all remain firmly within the hunt, residing within a one-point margin at the top of the table.
Following Liverpool’s disappointing draw with Manchester United, the title race couldn’t possibly be closer. Arsenal has the lead over the Reds on goal differential, while Manchester City sits a point back in third, but the EPL betting market feels Pep Guardiola‘s side will find a way to overcome the deficit.
With just seven matches remaining in the Premier League season, all three clubs sport plus numbers with the latest Las Vegas soccer odds, meaning no team is expected to run away with the title.
All three clubs are still alive in European play, with Arsenal and Man City competing in the Champions League quarterfinals while Liverpool is among the quarterfinalists in the Europa League.
Everton Deducted Two More Points
Everton has been deducted two points for another breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
Before the points deduction was announced, Everton sat 15th in the standings, four points above the bottom three. They now dropped below Brentford into 16th place on 27 points, two points and two places above 18th-placed Luton.
Everton says its legal team has begun the preparations to appeal the Commission’s decision. Should they confirm that appeal, a decision must be heard by May 25, which is the week after the end of the Premier League season.
Everton was also deducted 10 points in November, but this was reduced to six points following a successful appeal. They will play Chelsea next weekend, but we won’t include them in our soccer picks and parlays.
Ruben Amorim to Liverpool
The 39-year-old former Portugal international, who is currently managing Sporting in the Portuguese top-flight league, is ready to embrace an exciting new challenge in England starting next season.
Amorim emerged as a top target for those at Anfield after it became clear that current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso would not become available this summer.
According to reports, Amorim has verbally agreed to a three-year contract with Liverpool. That paperwork is waiting for him to sign on Merseyside, with final negotiations between the Premier League giants and Sporting said to be taking place.
Relegation Battle: Who Will Stay Up?
Everton has dropped to within two points of the relegation zone after being punished for a second breach of Premier League financial rules.
Meanwhile, Luton boosted their survival hopes with a late win at Bournemouth and is behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest on goal difference.
On Sunday, Sheffield United rescued a late, credible draw at home to Chelsea, although the point still leaves them nine adrift of safety. And Nottingham Forest remains deep in relegation trouble after a 3-1 defeat by Tottenham.
Questions of the Day
Who will win the 2024 PFA Player of the Year Award?
Phil Foden has had an impressive campaign, scoring 14 times and assisting seven goals. In what has arguably been his best season so far, Foden has a great chance at winning the award and he is priced at +250 according to the latest soccer odds.
Who will win the Golden Boot in the Premier League?
Erling Haaland scored his 19th goal of the season on April 6 to widen the gap between first and second place to three goals. He is now the favorite to win the award at a -250 betting line.
Ollie Watkins’ 17th and 18th goals were scored about 90 minutes after Haaland got his 19th. And Mohamed Salah claimed his 17th a day later with a penalty versus Manchester United. Two other players have 16 goals and this race is far from settled.
