4 Premier League Storylines to Follow in the 2024-25 Betting Season

1. Citizens Are Favorites to Retain the Title

Last season, Manchester City collected their fourth Premier League title in a row, becoming the first side in the history of the competition to do so. They have now won six of the last seven campaigns, asserting absolute dominance over the modern era.

Premier League football continues to wow audiences across the globe, with goalscoring records increasingly broken and on- and off-field drama intensifying all the time.

It will come as no surprise that Pep Guardiola’s side are already massive favorites in our soccer betting lines to claim an unprecedented fifth title in a row.

Last season’s Arsenal were really the only challengers for the title, but just fell short come the final day.

The Citizens have mainly been focusing on trimming their squad this summer, with five players going out, all of whom were either squad players or loanees making permanent moves away. However, they have brought in winger Savinho from Troyes to provide competition for Jeremy Doku, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden.

The likely departure of Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid also leaves City looking a little threadbare at the top end of the pitch, especially if Erling Haaland gets injured again, while age seemed to be catching up on Kyle Walker during the Euros and there are still concerns about John Stone’s ongoing fitness.

Pep Guardiola’s side is known for its relentless style and deep squad. It has shown that it can adapt to various challenges, making it a tough team to beat over a long season. However, the challenge of securing a fifth straight title is monumental, with several clubs aiming to end Guardiola’s reign.

If you love betting on futures, Man City are the team to back at +110.

2. Arsenal Is City’s Main Challenger

The hangover from finishing as runners-up to Manchester City again has taken longer to clear this time after pushing Pep Guardiola’s side so hard in the Premier League.

Despite a series of club records, including 35 wins in 52 matches, to end the season without a trophy was a bitter pill for Mikel Arteta and his players after defeats against Aston Villa and Bayern Munich in the space of four days proved terminal.

The new season brings fresh hope that a young yet experienced squad can finally get over the line. With the arrival of Riccardo Calafiori set to add quality at the back, the foundations are in place.

Arsenal is seen as the primary challenger to City’s throne, with odds at +175. Arsenal’s resurgence has been fueled by a strong defense and a dynamic attack, making them a formidable opponent but they tend to lose their force when it counts so we won’t include them to our soccer picks and parlays.

3. Five New Managers Join the Premier League

The 45-year-old Dutchman Arne Slot arrived from Feyenoord and is Liverpool’s first new head coach in nearly a decade, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.

Slot enjoyed a successful three-year spell with Feyenoord, where he won one Eredivisie title, the Dutch Cup and reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final in 2022. The Reds are third favorites to lift the trophy priced at +700.

Enzo Maresca was appointed Chelsea head coach at the start of June, replacing Mauricio Pochettino. Last season, Maresca oversaw promotion at the first attempt with Leicester City, leading the Foxes to the Championship title and back to the Premier League after their relegation in 2022-23.

Kieran McKenna has guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions since taking over in December 2021, securing a place for the club in the Premier League for the first time since 2002. His first top-flight match will be at home to Liverpool on 17 August but Ipswich enter this clash as huge underdogs priced at +700 BetUS soccer odds.

Russell Martin secured promotion in his debut campaign in charge at St Mary’s, leading Southampton to a swift return to the Premier League following a one-year absence.

Appointed by Brighton at the age of 31 years Fabian Hurzeler is set to break a record as the youngest head coach to take charge of a Premier League match, at 31 years and 180 days, when he oversees his first fixture against Everton on matchday 1.

Last season he led German second-tier club St. Pauli to promotion to the Bundesliga and he replaced Roberto De Zerbi at Brighton.

4. EPL 2024-25 Season Underdogs

Chelsea is at +2000 to win the title. Although the Blues have been inconsistent in recent seasons, they have the financial muscle and squad depth to compete at the highest level.Much will depend on their ability to gel as a unit and maintain consistency throughout the campaign.

Manchester United and Newcastle United both have odds of +2500. United has been in a rebuilding phase under Erik ten Hag, aiming to restore their former glory.

The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market as they look to become a contender for the highly contested top four. Soccer news outlets suggest that as many as seven players, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Harry Maguire, are on United’s clearout list.

They have already secured the signing of striker Joshua Zirkzee for $46 million from Bologna in an attempt to shore up their attack as Erik ten Hag hopes to forget about his side’s struggles in front of goal.

Backed by significant investment, Newcastle is an emerging Premier League force and could be a dark horse in the title race.
