Top Picks for Juventus vs. Roma

It has been 12 years since Italy faced off against Spain in the European Championship Final. Despite boasting a star-studded midfield featuring Andrea Pirlo, Claudio Marchisio, Daniele De Rossi, and Thiago Motta, the latter coming off the bench in the 57th minute, Italy suffered a 4-0 shellacking at the hands of Spain. De Rossi and Motta are now managing two of Serie A’s biggest sides in Roma and Juventus, and they’ll be going head to head this weekend in what should be an enthralling fixture in Turin.

Last season, Motta’s Bologna did the double over the Giallorossi, beating Jose Mourinho’s Roma 2-0 at home before prevailing 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico in a match that would prove decisive in the final rankings. Whilst Bologna would go on to finish fifth and return to Europe’s premier competition after six decades, Roma finished sixth, five points behind Bologna.

Having replaced Mourinho in mid-January, De Rossi got off to a stellar start with the Lupetti, winning 12 of his first 17 matches and earning the job on a permanent basis. However, his Roma side spiraled out of control in the final weeks of the 2023/24 season, winning just one of their last seven matches.

Roma fell to Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Europa League semifinals and failed to capitalized on their initial momentum. Roma have not participated in the UEFA Champions League since 2018/19 – De Rossi’s last season with the club in his 18-year spell at the capital –  and so far, the signs aren’t great for them as they look to end that drought.

After falling to a 0-0 draw at Cagliari, Roma suffered a humiliating 2-1 home defeat to Empoli – two teams that finished just one point above the relegation zone last season. They haven’t beaten Juve at the Allianz Stadium in four years, and they’ve won just one of their last eight matches vs. the Bianconeri.

As for Juve, they’ve come out victorious in three of their last four home matches vs. Roma, and we’re backing that trend to continue in our Serie A .

Juventus have gotten off to a winning start under Motta, going two goals to the good before halftime against newly promoted Como en route to a 3-0 victory. The next match, Juve went into halftime with a two-goal lead and stretched it to three shortly after the break, with Dusan Vlahovic completing his brace from the penalty spot and sealing a 3-0 win vs. Hellas Verona.

Vlahovic will be riding high on confidence and should be more than capable of exploiting a Roma side that has conceded 2+ goals in four of their last six matches. We’re backing Juve to enter halftime with the advantage and come away with a third consecutive victory under Motta.

We’re also backing Vlahovic to have a major role to play. If you’re planning on betting on Serie A, bet on Vlahovic doing the business and leading Juve to victory against Roma.
