Argentina Survives Netherlands on Penalty Kicks
Messi & Co. Advance to Semifinal vs Croatia
It was anything but easy Friday in Qatar but Lionel Messi and Argentina have advanced to the World Cup semifinals.
Argentina needed penalty kicks to gain the final four and a match with Croatia on Tuesday. Croatia ousted Brazil on penalty kicks in the Friday’s first quarterfinal.
The Argentines had a 2-0 lead against the Netherlands in the quarterfinal. The second goal came on a penalty kick by Messi in the 73rd minute after a foul on the Netherlands.

However, the match was nowhere near over.
Wout Weghorst scored twice to tie the match. The second goal came 11 minutes into stoppage time. Argentina was that close to moving on without the drama of extra time and penalty kicks. To learn more about the match between Sarmiento Junin vs River Plate in the Argentina Liga Profesional.
