It’s going to be an exciting fight in Las Vegas Saturday as Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez Jr. square off for the IBF, WBA, WBO lightweight championships. Both fighters have had fantastic careers, and it will truly be hard to see one of them lose.
An interesting aspect is the age gap between the two, which sits at nine years. Lomachenko is more of a veteran at 32, while Lopez Jr. is just 23. This isn’t to say that the winner has just been stated, but it is showing a difference in repetitions.
The first bell cannot come soon enough.
The betting odds for this boxing match show Lomachenko as a heavy favorite, set with -430 odds to win. Lopez Jr. is the underdog with +330 odds.
Lomachenko vs Lopez Betting Preview
All About Lomachenko
Lomachenko has had a great career, racking up a 14-1 record. The native of the Ukraine has not seen defeat in more than six-and-a-half years since he met Orlando Salido in San Antonio.
Ten of his 14 wins have come via knockout, as he tends to really bring the power that wears down his opponents. The southpaw stands at 5-7 and is a resident of California. He’s held the world super lightweight, lightweight, super featherweight, and featherweight titles.
This is going to be his fifth time fighting in Las Vegas and the second time at MGM Grand. The last time he had a fight here in 2015 against Gamaller Rodriguez. He won that via knockout, something that could perhaps bode well when we snap things back to the present.
This will be Lomachenko’s first fight since Aug. 31, 2019, way before the pandemic. He took down Luke Campbell via unanimous decision. The goal for him is to end the night at 15-1.
All About Lopez
The 23-year-old Lopez Jr. has not lost in his professional career. Lopez Jr. is 15-0 with 12 knockouts to date. The native of Arkansas and current resident of Brooklyn, NY, is a handful.
His last fight took place on Dec. 14, when he TKO’d Richard Commey. That fight was the sixth one he fought at Madison Square Garden, not too far from his home. He’s used to fighting on the East Coast.
This is going to be the second time that Lopez is fighting in Las Vegas. The righty coming in undefeated adds a little more pressure. Lomachenko going five years without a loss doesn’t make it any easier.
Lopez was active in 2019, taking four fights. This is his toughest task yet, though, and he is an extreme betting underdog. Will Lopez Jr. improve to 16-0, or is his perfect record in jeopardy?
Lomachenko vs Lopez Betting Preview Prediction on the Fight
In what will be an exciting showdown, there can sadly be only one winner. And it is going to be the fighter that comes out hot and doesn’t allow his opponent to land any big blows in the early going.
This could be a fight that goes the distance. Both Lopez and Lomachenko will need to be patient and wait for their opportunity. If they strike too soon and leave themselves open, that’s an invitation to a TKO.
Lopez will pull a surprising upset and stay undefeated. You heard it here first. He’ll win by knockout.
