Creighton Seeking Revenge
The No. 15-ranked team was upset by 5-9 Georgetown, so revenge is on the minds of the Bluejays.
Creighton was riding a winning streak before losing 86-79 to Georgetown, but it came back with a solid 71-68 win over Marquette.
A loss on Tuesday could see its ranking slip even further, but the Bluejays are a better team than the Hoyas, so it will be a self-belief issue.
Creighton has an edge in most statistical categories, including points scored, points against, and field-goal percentage. Therefore, the likelihood of Creighton exacting its revenge is high.
Georgetown Couldn’t Follow Up Win
The win over Creighton was a step in the right direction for Georgetown, but it couldn’t continue the momentum against Villanova.
The opposition was different, but the 84-74 loss makes it tough for the Hoyas to make any claim for March Madness. A win over Villanova would have given the Hoyas a strong chance, but they can still inflict more pain on the Bluejays.
Georgetown scored a seven-point win last week, and it will take plenty of confidence from the outing. If Jahvon Blair gets hot, another win is entirely possible at underdog odds.
Is Creighton Legit?
Creighton has put together an excellent season at face value, but is it a danger to the top teams in the tournament?
Quality wins have come over Nebraska, UConn, Xavier, and Seton Hall, but the season has been marred by sub-quality losses.
Defeats at the hands of Marquette, Butler, Georgetown, and Providence isn’t doing its record any good. To the credit of Creighton, three of the four losses came by less than five points.
Six games remain in the college basketball season for Creighton, and two are against Villanova. Therefore, beating teams like Georgetown is needed to see its record remain intact.
Will Georgetown Score Another Upset?
Georgetown doesn’t have much to play for, but it can cause headaches for its opponents.
The Hoyas already know how to beat this team, so the upset could be on again. They have played only 14 games this season, and the interrupted schedule hasn’t worked in their favor.
Georgetown suffered five consecutive losses before having four games postponed. The long break worked the trick, as it won consecutive games against Providence and Creighton, before losing to Villanova.
The chance for an upset is there, and Georgetown has the benefit of playing at home.
Creighton should get revenge on Georgetown. Denzel Mahoney is the leading scorer for Creighton, and he has been getting good looks. If the guard can control the tempo of this game, the Bluejays should have too much class.
