Florida Gators vs Oklahoma Sooners
Date: Wednesday, December 30th, 2020 – 8:00 PM ET
Location: Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
NCAAF Odds: Sooners -3
Overview
Florida has begun to turn themselves into a pass first offense led by Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Kyle Trask. Trask averaged around 375 yards per game on the year and held a 186.6 passer rating throughout the season. In this matchup, he is going to be without a few of his top targets including future superstar Kyle Pitts, as well as Trevon Grimes and Kadarius Toney. Each of those guys are looking to prepare for the NFL draft with Pitts possibly going as a top 10 selection.
This is an offense that can be unstoppable at times and are going to need to adapt if they want a chance to win this game. Their defense is solid, but they will not be able to rely on them to hold down Oklahoma for long periods of time and will need to put up points early and often.
Sooners offense
Somehow, the Sooners offense regressed compared to last season, but they still provide a decent threat for a Gators defense that was ranked 78th nationally in average yards allowed per pass attempt. They are led by quarterback Spencer Rattler. He has been able to lead this offense to a few big games throughout the year. His job will also be made easier this week as the team recently got Rhamondre Stevenson back from suspension, taking their rushing attack to a whole new level. If they are able to get their run game going then it could end up resulting in a successful day through the air. Their defense will also have their hands full with Trask on the other end but should be well prepared as they have been able to completely revamp and seemingly play their best ball when up against pass first offenses.
Trends
-The Gators are 5-1 ATS in their past six matchups when coming into a he game as an underdog
-The Sooners are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall
Bottom Line
The Florida Gators have had a good season but they’re not going to be super excited to be in this game. They were a hair away from being in the College Football Playoff. But the shoe-throwing incident – along with an awful effort against LSU – cost them. On top of that, they’ve had a ton of opt-outs here, so they’re not likely to be that focused on the win. Look for Oklahoma to take advantage and win this bowl.
Prediction: Sooners 38, Gators 35
