There is a lot of intrigue in the Cheez-It Bowl in Orlando. Oklahoma State and Miami are linked in college football history as the programs where Jimmy Johnson, future Super Bowl winner with the Dallas Cowboys, served as a head coach. Johnson will certainly be watching Tuesday as his former teams lock horns in a Big 12-ACC battle. Oklahoma State was ranked as high as No. 6, while Miami got up to No. 7. Both teams were knocked down a few pegs, but they still made similar journeys and have noticeable points of strength. One matchup is likely to decide how this game goes… and it’s not the one you think. Let’s take a closer look at the online betting odds.
Oklahoma State Cowboys vs Miami Hurricanes
College Football Odds: Oklahoma State -1

The matchup that understandably gets all the headlines is the confrontation between the Oklahoma State defense and Miami quarterback D’Eriq King. Oklahoma State’s defense under coordinator Glenn Spencer has been good. The Cowboys beat a good Tulsa team in the season opener. They defeated an Iowa State team, which is playing in the prestigious Fiesta Bowl. Iowa State nearly won the Big 12 championship, coming up short on Dec. 19 versus Oklahoma. Oklahoma State’s defense flies to the ball and shows good instincts. The Cowboys are in the right position and exhibit discipline on a regular basis.
Up against this defense is King, easily Miami’s best quarterback since the great Ken Dorsey led the Canes on a 34-game winning streak in the early 2000s, coming within a whisker of two straight national championships. King has led Miami back from double-digit deficits multiple times, including games at North Carolina State and Virginia Tech. He is a dazzling dual-threat force who masks Miami’s weaknesses a lot of the time. Seeing him go against OSU’s defense will be worth the television time you spend on this game.
However, that’s not the matchup that will decide this game. It’s the other matchup between Oklahoma State’s struggling offense and Miami’s weak defense. These are the more vulnerable aspects of these teams, so whichever team can hide or minimize its deficiencies is probably going to win. Oklahoma State’s offensive line got hit by injuries during the season. Miami’s defensive line got torn to pieces by North Carolina in a humiliating 62-26 loss on December 12 which knocked the Hurricanes out of the Orange Bowl game they hoped to play in. Can OSU’s O-line regroup? Can Miami’s defensive front stuff the run? Those are the key questions here.
– Oklahoma State is 4-0 ATS in its last four bowl games.
– Oklahoma State is 4-0 ATS in its last four games versus ACC opponents.
– Miami is 6-0 ATS in its last six games after allowing more than 40 points in its previous game.
The Oklahoma State offensive line simply isn’t good enough to shove around Miami’s unimposing defensive line. That flaw for the Cowboys will make it hard for them to outscore D’Eriq King.
Prediction: Miami 31, Oklahoma State 24
