Against the Spread (Devlin Duckett)
Last Saturday, the Rams pulled off the upset in Seattle against the favored Seahawks. L.A.’s two quarterbacks, John Wolford and Jared Goff, combined efforts as decent game managers, while RB Cam Akers powered forward. Akers dominated Seattle, rushing for 131 yards and a touchdown in his first ever playoff game, L.A. winning 30-20.
The Rams’ top-ranked defense sacked Russell Wilson five times, and forced a couple of turnovers. L.A.’s’ rock-solid D faces its stiffest challenge yet this coming week, needing to neutralize the Packers top-ranked offense. Likely defensive player of the year, DT Aaron Donald, suffered torn rib cartilage vs the Seahawks, but is expected to play against Green Bay.
The Rams’ defense should be able to lock horns pretty well with the Packers’ potent offense. L.A. will lean heavily on Akers’ wheels in this one, since Goff (thumb) will be wearing gloves on both hands. Between Akers ground gains and a projected stellar performance by L.A.’s defense, the Rams should win ATS. The away team in this head-to-head matchup is 5-2 ATS over the last seven meetings.
Los Angeles will finish close enough to make it sting that much more when Green Bay wins. Packers 27, Rams 23
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
The Los Angeles Rams’ HC Sean McVay hasn’t revealed who will be starting under center Saturday. Jared Goff finished the job against the Seattle Seahawks, but admitted his thumb was not 100%. John Wolford started against the Seahawks, but was injured early in the game.
Against Seattle, the Rams ran the ball 43 times. Cam Akers finished with 28 attempts for 131 yards and one touchdown. Expect that to be a trend.
The Rams scored 30 points against the Seahawks and finished the regular season averaging 23.3 points per game. The total has gone under in four of the Rams’ last five games.
Green Bay is coming off its well-earned bye week.
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers finished the regular season as the highest-scoring team with 31.8 points per game. Since Week 7 of the regular season, Davante Adams’ scored in all their games but one.
The Packers also have a good backfield with Aaron Jones, Jamaal Williams and rookie AJ Dillon.
The total has gone under in five of Green Bay’s last six games when playing at home against the Rams. Go under once again.
