American League Matchup of the Week: Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers

The 2019 Major League Baseball season is entering the final stretch, and teams are jockeying for playoff position. The Minnesota Twins are trying to hold on and win the American League Central Division this season, while the Detroit Tigers have been horrible all season long. These two teams will meet up this weekend, and the Friday night game is the American League Matchup of the Week.

The Minnesota Twins enter the week with a record of 76-48, but they have struggled just a bit in recent months. The Twins are in a tight battle with the Cleveland Indians for the top spot in the American League Central, but look to have a playoff spot secured. Detroit has been miserable all season long, and things have not gotten any better since the Trade Deadline. The Tigers enter the week with a record of 37-84, and will likely finish the season with the worst record in the American League.

Berrios on Mound For Twins

The Minnesota Twins have been getting a ton of recognition for their offense this season, but their starting rotation has been solid as well. Right hander Jose Berrios will be on the mound for Minnesota on Friday night, and he is having another solid season. Berrios comes into this game with a record of 10-6 to go along with an earned run average of 3.37. Berrios should have little trouble with a bad Tigers offense in this game.

The Minnesota Twins are setting all kinds of home run records this season, and have hit 240 of them to lead all of Major League Baseball. Max Kepler leads the team with 33 long balls, but Nelson Cruz is right behind him with 31. Shortstop Jorge Polanco is leading the team with a .291 batting average, but the Twins know how to score runs through the air.

Tigers Just Can't Find any Offense

The Detroit Tigers just haven't been able to score runs all season long, and things have been worse since trading Nicholas Castellanos to the Chicago Cubs. Detroit has scored just 437 runs this season, and have hit only 111 home runs. First baseman Brandon Dixon is leading the team with 14 home runs, and Miguel Cabrera has driven in a team-high 48 runs. The Tigers will have to find some offense to upset the Minnesota Twins.

Left hander Matthew Boyd might be the ace of the Detroit Tigers staff these days, and that isn't saying much. Boyd is just 6-9 with a 4.24 earned run average this season, and hasn't won a game since the beginning of July. Boyd has given up 30 home runs already this season, and that spells trouble against the slugging Minnesota Twins.

Twins Win Big on Friday Night

The Detroit Tigers will be trying to play the role of spoiler in the final few weeks of the season, but they just don't have the talent to get it done. Detroit has not been able to score any runs all season long, and they haven't gotten enough starting pitching. Minnesota knows that they need a sweep over the Tigers this weekend, and they will get things started off right on Friday night. Bet the Minnesota Twins over the Detroit Tigers in the American League Betting Matchup of the Week.
