Home Run Derby Betting Preview

The 2019 Major League Baseball Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 8, and it is always one of the most anticipated events of All Star Week. The format of the Home Run Derby changed last season, and it brought a bunch of new energy and excitement into the event. Bryce Harper is the reigning Home Run Derby champion, but there will be a new winner crowned this year. Let's take a look at the field, and the current odds before making a pick.

Christian Yelich:

The reigning Most Valuable Player in the National League is off to another great start in 2019. Yelich has already hit 31 home runs this season, and could get to 60 if he keeps up this pace. He has one of the prettiest swings in baseball, and fans will love watching the ball jump off of his bat.

Josh Bell:

Pittsburgh Pirates first baseman Josh Bell is having a career year, and entered Wednesday with 25 home runs. Bell also leads the National League in runs batted in, and has been hitting the ball like crazy this season. He has plenty of power to win this event.

Alex Bregman:

Bregman is back in the Home Run Derby after losing in the first round a year ago. He blasted 15 long balls in a losing effort, but showed the world his power. Bregman will be the fourth seed in this field, and should be someone to keep an eye on.

Joc Pederson:

Pederson is another late entry into this derby, but is a very worthy competitor. The lefty comes into Wednesday night with 20 home runs, and he does have some experience. Pederson almost won the event in 2015, and could easily be in the finals again.

Ronald Acuna Jr:

Acuna broke out last season as a member of the Atlanta Braves, and was named the Rookie of the Year in the National League. Acuna is closing in on 20 home runs this season, and his home runs are all mammoth blasts.

Pete Alonso:

Alonso is about the only reason to pay attention to the New York Mets this season, and he is putting up historic numbers. He has already set the Mets rookie record for home runs, and he doesn't get cheated when he swings. Alonso has the potential to hit a ball 500 feet in this event.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.:

Guerrero comeos into Wednesday with just eight home runs on the season, but didn't start the season in the Major Leagues. Guerrero is the son of a MLB Hall of Famer, and he had plenty of hype surrounding him before reaching the big leagues. Don't be surprised if the youngster does well in this event.

Carlos Santana:

Santana is in the field as the Indians representative, and will be trying to put on a show for the hometown fans. Santana came into Wednesday with 18 home runs this season, which is just six less than he hit a season ago. He will certainly get a huge boost from the crowd on Monday night, and that has helped Todd Frazier (2015) and Bryce Harper (2018) in recent years.

The Pick:

Rookie Pete Alonso of the New York Mets hits the ball long and hard, and his swing should play very well in this event. Alonso is extremely excited for this event, and he should put on a show for the fans in Cleveland. Bet Pete Alonso to win the 2019 MLB Home Run Derby.
