MLB Lock of the Week: Chicago White Sox at Minnesota Twins- May 24

The Minnesota Twins just keep on winning games and they are starting to look like serious contenders in the American League. The Chicago White Sox thought that this would be the year that they would be contenders again, but that hasn't been the case so far. Minnesota and Chicago have built up a great rivalry through the years, and it is always fun when these teams take the field. The series opener on Friday night is the "Lock of the Week" across Major League Baseball.

Minnesota had their five game winning streak snapped on Sunday against the Mariners, but they have been playing great ball of late. The Twins sit in first place in the American League Central Division with a 30-16 record, and look like legit contenders. Chicago has had some nice moments during the 2019 regular season, but come into this game with a 21-24 record. The White Sox sit in third place in the AL Central, but don't have the feel of a playoff team this season.

Twins Are Hitting Home Runs

The Minnesota Twins have been using the home run ball to carry their offense all season long. Minnesota already has five games this season where they have hit at least five home runs, and they are getting production from their entire lineup. Eddie Rosario leads the team with 13 home runs and 35 runs batted in, but he has had plenty of help as well. Minnesota has eight different players with at least seven home runs this season, and their lineup should fare well against White Sox pitching.

Minnesota will also have a huge advantage in starting pitching in the series opener on Friday night. Ace Jose Berrios has always had the talent, but he is starting to put it together in 2019. The talented right hander has gone 6-2 with a 3.39 earned run average so far this season, and shouldn't have much trouble with an inconsistent White Sox lineup.

Lopez On Mound For White Sox

Reynaldo Lopez will make the start for the White Sox in the series opener and that might not be a good thing for Sox fans. Lopez has gone just 3-4 with a 5.14 earned run average so far this season, but did pitch well in his most recent start. The young right hander has yielded 11 home run balls already this season, and that could be a huge problem against the slugging Twins team.

Shortstop Tim Anderson is off to a terrific start this season, but he hasn't gotten a ton of help in the middle of the White Sox lineup. Anderson is leading the team with a .335 batting average and has also hit eight home runs. Phenom Eloy Jimenez should be back in the lineup by this game, but was hitting just .241 before his injury. There is plenty of young talent in the White Sox lineup, but they have yet to prove they can do it at the Major League level.

Twins Win Series Opener From Rival

These two teams don't like each other, and anything is possible when these two teams take the field. This season though, the Minnesota Twins are hitting the ball like crazy and they are just a much better team than the White Sox. Chicago just can't score enough runs to beat their rival. Bet the Minnesota Twins over the Chicago White Sox in the MLB "Lock of the Week."
