MLB Lock of the Week: Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals

The Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals will play a four game series this weekend, and the Twins will be heavily favored in all of the games. Minnesota has put together an impressive run to begin the 2019 season, while the Kansas City Royals are in a total rebuild. Even though the Twins will be favored in all four games, Thursday night's series opener is the MLB Lock of the Week.

The Kansas City Royals begin the week more than 24 games behind the Minnesota Twins in the American League Central Division. The Royals have fallen on tough times in recent seasons, and they don't appear to be close to being a playoff contender. Minnesota has been the surprise team in baseball, and has a commanding lead in the AL Central. The Twins still have plenty of work to do, but this team looks to be special.

Odorizzi Has Been Great For Twins

Jake Odorizzi will make the start for the Twins on Thursday night, and that gives them a huge advantage. Odorizzi is off to the best start of his career this season, and bring a 10-2 record into this game to go along with an ERA of just 2.24. The veteran right hander hasn't lost a game since April 10, and just beat the Royals in his last start over the weekend. At this point the only question left surrounding Odorizzi is if he will be the AL starter in the All-Star Game.

The Twins do one thing extremely well on offense and this is launch home runs. Minnesota has hit 137 home runs already this season while allowing just 85 of them. Eddie Rosario leads the team with 19 long balls, but seven different players have at least 10 home runs this season. Shortstop Jorge Polanco leads the American League with a .332 batting average and this Twins lineup is much better than expected. Expect a ton of runs scored from the Twins all series long, but especially on Thursday night.

Royals Don't Have a Consistent Offense

When the Royals lost catcher Salvador Perez to an injury in the offseason it took away their biggest offensive threat. Kansas City hasn't been able to find anyone to fill that void, and have scored just 302 runs this season. Jorge Soler has been a bright spot for the Royals on offense, and leads the team with 19 home runs and 51 runs batted in. Kansas City will need to score runs to beat the Twins.

Glenn Sparkman will make the start on Thursday night, and he is looking to turn his season around. Sparkman has spent time in the bullpen and starting rotation this season, and will be making his 6th start of the season in this game. The right hander is just 1-3 with a 4.01 earned run average, and will be facing a great lineup in this game.

Odorizzi, Twins Dominate Series Finale

The pitching matchup in the series opener on Thursday is what makes it the Lock of the Week. Minnesota will have one of their best pitchers on the mound in this game, and the Royals will counter with a struggling youngster. Kansas City might be able to win a game or two in this series, but it won't be on Thursday night. Bet the Minnesota Twins over the Kansas City Royals in the MLB Lock of the Week.
