MLB Matchup of the Week: Houston Astros vs. Seattle Mariners

There are a ton of great betting options this week in Major League Baseball, but only one game could be chosen as the MLB Matchup of the Week. The Houston Astros are hosting the Seattle Mariners this weekend, and their game on Saturday night is the best betting matchup of the week. The pitching matchup favors the Houston Astros in a big way, but the Houston lineup is also far superior to that of the Seattle Mariners.

Houston enters the week with a record of 89-49, and they have been playing great baseball of late. The Astros have a commanding lead in the American League West Division, and are close to being the top team in the Major Leagues. Seattle got off to a great start this season, but things fell apart in a hurry. The Mariners enter the week with a record of 58-80, and are just 29-40 away from home in Seattle.

Verlander Dominant For Astros

Justin Verlander just threw his third career no-hitter in his last start, and has been pitching great all season long. Verlander threw his first no-hitter in 2007 with the Detroit Tigers and now has accomplished the feat 12 years later. The Houston Astros have been getting incredible starting pitching all season long, and Verlander is definitely leading that charge.

Houston has dealt with a ton of injuries to their regular lineup this season, but that hasn't stopped them from scoring a ton of runs. The Astros are hitting .275 as a team in 2019 which ranks second among all teams in the Major Leagues. Michael Brantley leads the team with a .329 batting average, while Alex Bregman leads the team with 32 home runs to go along with a .413 on-base percentage. Houston might not be the best offensive team in the American League, but they have been scoring runs of late.

Mariners Just Can't Score Runs

The Seattle Mariners were scoring runs like crazy at the beginning of the season, but things changed in a hurry. Seattle also traded away a ton of their offensive talent throughout the season, and they just haven't been productive of late. The Mariners are hitting just .242 as a team this season, and they likely won't put up much of a fight against Justin Verlander.

Seattle will be turning to a youngster to make this start, and that's not a good strategy against the Houston Astros. Justus Sheffield will be taking the mound for the Mariners on Saturday to oppose Verlander and he is just 0-1 with a 7.94 earned run average. This has all the makings of a huge offensive performance by the Houston Astros.

Verlander, Astros Win on Saturday Night

There is a good chance that the Seattle Mariners win a game in Houston this weekend, but it won't be on Saturday night. The pitching matchup favors the Astros in a huge way, and their offense has been clicking of late. Justin Verlander isn't going to throw another no-hitter in this game, but he will be dominant once again against a very weak Mariners lineup.Bet the Houston Astros over the Seattle Mariners in the MLB Matchup of the Week.
