MLB Matchup of the Week: Milwaukee Brewers at Colorado Rockies

The final week of the 2019 MLB regular season is here, and there are a lot of important games still on the schedule. The Milwaukee Brewers will be in Colorado for the final week of the regular season, and they are still in need of some wins. Games at Coors Field are traditionally high-scoring affairs, but both of the starting pitchers will try to limit the damage by their opponents.

Milwaukee enters the week with a record of 86-70 and currently hold the second Wild Card spot in the National League. The Brewers are just three games out of first in the NL Central race, and could catch the Cardinals with a great week of play. Colorado enters the final week of the season eliminated from playoff contention, but they still have a talented roster. The Rockies are 67-89 on the season, but they are always tough to beat in their home ballpark.

Brewers Winning Without Yelich

Most experts thought that the Milwaukee Brewers were done when Christian Yelich went out for the season with a knee injury, but that hasn't been the case. Mike Moustakas and Eric Thames have picked up the slack for the Brewers offense, and they have been scoring runs like crazy. Milwaukee plays their home games in a hitter-friendly ballpark, and they will experience much of the same at Coors Field in this game.

Right hander Zach Davies will be on the mound for the Brewers in the series opener, and he has been terrific all season long. Davies is 10-7 with a 3.61 earned run average this season, and has been pitching terrific of late. Milwaukee also features one of the most dominating bullpens in Major League Baseball, and they will go to their 'pen at any sign of trouble from Davies.

Rockies Struggling With Starting Pitching

The Colorado Rockies have struggled to find solid starting pitching since their existence, and that has been the case in 2019 as well. The Rockies will send right hander Chi Chi Gonzalez to the mound in this game, and he has struggled so far in his time in the Major Leagues. Gonzales is just 2-6 with a 5.68 earned run average this season, and he will be taking on an offense that is red-hot. The Rockies need a solid outing from their starter to stay in this game.

Third baseman Nolan Arenado continues to put up monster numbers for the Colorado Rockies and will look to finish the season strong. Arenado enters the week with 42 home runs and 118 runs batted in, and continues to be one of the best hitters in the National League. Colorado can really score, and they will challenge the Brewers pitching staff in this game.

Brewers Win Series Opener

The Milwaukee Brewers have a history of finishing the season strong, and much of the same is happening in 2019. Milwaukee comes into this series trying to run down the Cardinals in the NL Central Division and that should carry them in this game. Colorado has been eliminated from postseason contention for quite some time, but they are always tough to beat at home.
