MLB Betting Matchup of the Week: St. Louis Cardinals at Atlanta Braves

The 2019 MLB Playoffs are off and running, and fans will be treated to a game five on Wednesday night. The St. Louis Cardinals were able to force a decisive game five with a win over the Atlanta Braves in game four. The Braves will be the home team in this game, but the two teams split the first two games in Atlanta.

St. Louis was the best team in baseball during the second half of the season, and they have been worthy opponent this season. The Cardinals won the series opener, and were able to find just enough offense to win game four on Monday afternoon. Atlanta cruised to a first place finish in the NL East this season, and were close to winning 100 games. The Braves missed out on a chance to close out the series in game four, but will get another chance in game five.

Flaherty Takes the Mound For Cardinals

Jack Flaherty suffered the loss in game two of the series, but the Cardinals still feel very confident when he is on the mound. Flaherty was arguably the best pitcher in baseball since the All Star Break and can be downright nasty when he needs to be. The hard throwing right hander went 11-8 with a 2.75 earned run average this season. St. Louis has a very shaky bullpen, and Flaherty might need to go the distance in this game.

Marcell Ozuna has been the offensive hero for the Cardinals in this series, but he has gotten some help as well. Ozuna is leading the Cardinals with a .471 batting average in this series, and blasted a pair of home runs in the game four victory. Yadier Molina had the game-tying and game winning RBI's to keep the season alive, and he continues to have great at bats despite nearing the end of his career.

Braves Are Getting Plenty of Offense

The Atlanta Braves have had runners all over the basepaths in this series, but they will need to cash in on more of their scoring opportunities in this game. Ronald Acuna Jr. leads the team with a .500 on-base percentage in this series, and Dansby Swanson is hitting a cool .455. Atlanta struggled against Flaherty in game two, but will need to score some runs in this game.

Mike Foltynewicz will make the start for the Braves in this game, and he did not give up a run in the game two victory. Foltynewicz had a very interesting 2019 season, but gave up just three hits in his 7.0 innings pitched in this season. Don't be surprised to see Mike Soroka in this game as well, after he pitched a gem in game three. The Braves will have plenty of pitching in this game.

Braves Win Series Finale

Even though the Cardinals will have the pitching edge in this game, Atlanta has the advantage of playing at home. This has been an extremely tight series, and all of the games have been very close. Expect another tight, low-scoring game in the series finale, but the Atlanta Braves will get enough offense to pull it out.Bet the Atlanta Braves over the St. Louis Cardinals in game five of the NLDS.
