Daytona 500 Betting Preview

The Daytona 500, also known as the Great American Race, is set to take place on Sunday, February 16 at 2:30 in the afternoon. The Daytona 500 will once again be the season-opening race for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, and this is always one of the most interesting and exciting races of the year. Denny Hamlin is the current defending champion at the Daytona 500 that is ran annually at the Daytona International Speedway.

Built in 1959 by William France Sr., Daytona International Speedway has gone through four major renovations. The most recent renovation was completed in 2016, but the main design of the track has never been changed. Daytona International Speedway gave this new race track a banked design that allows for better view by spectators, and also allows for much higher speeds for the cars. One thing that sets the Daytona 500 apart from other races is the possibility of a major wreck that usually wipes out a large number of the drivers.

Pick to Win Daytona 500:

Staying out of harm's way is always a huge key when it comes to the Daytona 500, and it will once again have an impact in this race. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will be starting on the front row after winning the pole position. Stenhouse is an interesting driver to keep your eye on in the Daytona 500, but he is not our pick this weekend.

There have been just three repeat winners of the Daytona 500, but we think that list is going to grow this season. Denny Hamlin is the reigning Daytona 500 winner, and he has a great shot to win again this year. This is a loaded field with plenty of great betting picks, but we recommend taking Denny Hamlin +1300 to win the Daytona 500.
