NBA Betting Game of the Week: Indiana Pacers vs. Portland Trail Blazers

The National Basketball Association routinely features some terrific games on Thursday night, and that is where we find our betting game of the week this week. The Indiana Pacers will host the Portland Trail Blazers in a battle of contrasting styles, but with plenty of stars on the floor. Indiana is trying to improve on their playoff positioning in the East, and the Trail Blazers are in a playoff battle in the West.

Portland enters the week with a record of 26-32, and they still have plenty of work to do. The Trail Blazers have won just two of their last six games to make things harder on themselves. Indiana comes into this game with a record of 33-24. The Pacers are in second place in the Central Division, but are more than 15 games out of first place.

Lillard Needs Some Help

If the Portland Trail Blazers are going to make a playoff run, then Damian Lillard is going to need some help. Lillard is averaging 29.5 points and 7.9 assists per game this season, but the Pacers will be loading up to stop him. Carmelo Anthony has really stepped up of late for the Trail Blazers, and guard CJ McCullom has been solid as well.

Portland enters the week averaging over 113 points per game, which makes them a top-10 scoring team in the league. The Trail Blazers will obviously miss the scoring from Lillard if he is unable to play, but they still have plenty of offense. Portland also allows 115 points per game, and that number is just too high. The Blazers have plenty of flaws that need to be corrected.

Pacers Must Win With Defense

The Indiana Pacers are a top-10 defense this season, but they did not look like it in a recent game against the Toronto Raptors. Indiana is allowing just 108 points per game this season, but the Raptors hung 127 on them over the weekend. The Pacers score just 109 points per game in 2019-20, and that doesn't leave much room for error. Indiana's defense should show up and perform on their home floor.

All Star Damontas Sabonis continues to lead the Pacers on offense this season, but he finally has some much needed help. Sabonis is averaging 18.3 points, and 12.5 rebounds per game this season, but those numbers will go down with Victor Oladipo back in the fold. Oladipo is scoring just 10 points per game, but he is someone that can take over a game.

Pacers Too Strong on Home Floor

The Portland Trail Blazers love to score. Indiana wants to win with defense. It will be a clash of styles in this game, and that usually goes to the home team in the NBA. Portland can score points in a hurry, but the Indiana Pacers are going to find a way to slow down Damian Lillard. Lillard can only do so much on his own, and the Pacers have the much more balanced attack. Look for Indiana to get enough offense to pull this one out.

Bet the Indiana Pacers over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night in our NBA betting game of the week.
