NBA Pick of the Week: Milwaukee Bucks vs. Portland Trail Blazers

The 2019-20 National Basketball Association season is well underway, and we are starting to get a better idea of how teams shape up. There are some terrific games on the schedule this week, but we have identified a game on Thursday night as the NBA Pick of the Week. The Milwaukee Bucks host the Portland Trail Blazers in a battle of two Conference Final teams from a season ago.

Milwaukee enters the week with a record of 9-3, and they sit in first place in the Central Division. The Bucks have won three straight games and are playing terrific basketball. Portland is trending in the opposite direction, and they are just 5-8 on the season. The Trail Blazers are in the very tough Western Conference, and they are already getting buried in the standings.

Bucks Have Explosive and Efficient Offense

The Milwaukee Bucks are leading the NBA with 118.8 points per game, and they are also the best rebounding team in the league. Milwaukee shoots a ton of three-point shots, and they aren't afraid to take a quick shot. The Bucks also have the advantage of having the reigning league MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, leading their offense. The "Greek Freak" is averaging over 30 points per game this season, and there aren't many teams in the league that can stop him.

Milwaukee isn't a great defensive team, but they also aren't the worst. The Bucks are giving up less than 110 points per game, but their offensive tempo causes them to give up some points. Milwaukee is usually solid defensively at home, and they will focus their efforts on the terrific guards of Portland. The Bucks win games with their offense, but they can defend as well.

Trail Blazers Need More Balance

The Portland Trail Blazers have a pair of All Star caliber players in their backcourt, but they need some more balance. Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum have combined to average more than 50 points per game this season, but there is a ton of pressure on them to deliver. The Trail Blazers shoot a ton of three-point shots, but they are tough to stop when they are making them. Portland should also have Carmelo Anthony in the fold for this game after he was signed by the team last week.

Defense has been an issue for Portland as well, and the signing of Anthony won't help solve that issue. The Trail Blazers have given up over 114 points per game this season, and they just don't have anyone to protect the rim. Portland will have to find a way to stop the "Greek Freak" in this game.

Bucks Roll Over Blazers on Thursday Night

The Milwaukee Bucks have picked up where they left off a season ago, and they are always tough to beat at home. There should be plenty of points scored in this game as both teams really want to play fast on offense. The problem for the Blazers is that they just don't have much balance on offense, and that is going to hurt them in this game. Take the Milwaukee Bucks over the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday night in the NBA Pick of the Week.
