Clippers Eye Western Conference Finals
There’s not a lot of words that come to mind for the current series between the Clippers and the Nuggets other than, wow. It’s been bizarrely similar to the Denver vs Utah series because of the Nuggets’ second comeback after being down two games.
The main difference this time is that the Nuggets came into their series with the Clippers as the lower ranked team as opposed to the highest. Despite its current underdog status, Denver has continued to show why it ended its season as one of the highest ranked teams in the western conference.
In Game 1 the Clippers dominated the Nuggets. Los Angeles built an 18-point lead to end the first half and Denver never got close. Ultimately the Clippers won by 23 points.
Game 2 ended on quite a different note for the Nuggets. They dominated the Clippers in the first quarter 44-25. Los Angeles made a small dent in Denver’s lead in the second quarter, but only by three points.
Although the Clippers never gave up and looked like they could overtake the Nuggets, they ended up losing Game 2 with a final score of 110-101.
Games 3 and 4 were all about Los Angeles who won two in a row after their Game 2 loss. Game 3 the Clippers won 113-107 and Game 4 they won 96-85.
Game 5 is where things started to turn around. The Clippers looked ready to close out the series and they led by 12 points heading into the second half. They even extended that lead early on in the 3rd quarter.
Then the Nuggets tapped into some series basketball mana, rallying their way to a 111-105 victory.
Game 6 was bizarrely identical except for the fact Los Angeles built an even larger lead early on, ending the half with a 16-point lead. The second half was more than inversed. The Nuggets outscored the Clippers in the last two quarters by an incredible 29 points, ending the game 111-98.
It’s really been all about Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray for Denver. They are both averaging 26.1 PPG in the postseason, more than double anybody else on the team. They’ll have to keep the pedal to the metal if they want accomplish the impossible and defeat the Clippers this series.
Clippers vs Nuggets Game 7 Preview Odds:
Denver Nuggets: +7, +250
LA Clippers: -7, -300
The Clippers are still heavily favored to win, especially looking at the difference in the odds. -300 is a big buy in and you need to spend a lot for little reward so consider the point spread. -7 isn’t a huge spread and they’ve shown they can beat Denver by larger margins than that consistently.
Los Angeles is due for a big win especially the way Kawhi Leonard has been playing. So far in the postseason he is averaging 29.5 PPG, 9.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 2.3 steal and 0.8 blocks. He’s leading his team in every single one of these categories, an incredible feat to say the least.
