Friday nights are NBA online betting nights and we’ve got eleven games going on (pre-COVID postponements). There are plenty of repeats and competitive NBA matchups from Wednesday night and some chalky games with potential blowouts. Guess which NBA picks I’m going with?
It may not be the most fun as a fan, but some games can be predictable like when a title contender goes up against a lottery team. We abhor these as fans but head to the nearest sportsbook to bet on it.
But other than the two blowouts, I went with a competitive matchup between two under-the-radar squad.
Nets Exact Vengeance on Cavaliers
Collin Sexton and the Cavaliers put on a game for the ages when they upset the “Big 3” Nets on Wednesday night. The Cavs pushed the Nets to two overtimes, where Sexton took over to complete the upset.
Can they do it again? If NBA odds could laugh, it would as Brooklyn opens as another sizable favorite. Cleveland simply put up an unsustainable level of offense shooting 51.4 percent from the field including hitting 20 of their 40 three-pointers.
The Nets rank in the top-five in most offensive categories including offensive rating (3rd), field goal percent (1st), and three-point percent (4th). Cleveland is last in the NBA in offensive rating and second-last in true shooting percent (TS%).
Don’t expect another shootout between these two teams. Brooklyn will slap the Cavs back to reality with a blowout. I’ll “boldly” make Brooklyn the anchor to my NBA picks.
Pick: Brooklyn Nets to win and cover -11.0 (-110)
Bulls Edge Hornets in Battle of Underdogs
Chicago and Charlotte sit at the 11th and 12th spots in the Eastern Conference with identical 6-8 records. Both figure to be in the playoff hunt although are trending different directions with Charlotte dropping three straight while Chicago has won two.
As far as betting trends are concerned, both teams have been valuable as underdogs. Chicago is 10-4 against the spread and 7-2 while on the road. Charlotte is 8-6 ATS and is 5-5 as a dog. If you’ve been betting these teams, you’re probably making cash.
These two also make for a stylistic clash. The Bulls are a high-powered offense ranking in the top-ten in the NBA in TS% (5th) and points per game (4th) while the Hornets have an efficient defense being ninth in the NBA in defensive rating (107.9).
I favor good defense to beat good offense and Charlotte has beaten Chicago in four of their last five meetings. Different players and different coaches then, but the results will still be the same.
Pick: Charlotte Hornets to win (-163)
Clippers Mute the Thunder
A trend is emerging with Oklahoma City: they either grind out a win or they get run out of the building. In their last ten games, OKC has beaten the likes of Chicago and Orlando and got blown out by the likes of the Lakers and the Heat. See a difference?
Against a legitimate contender, the Thunder are likely to get drilled. They did beat the Nets without Kyrie Irving, but the Clippers have been on a roll—the best team in the NBA in the last five games, in fact.
The Clippers are second in the NBA in offensive rating (117.1), three-point percent (44.1%), and free throw percent (83.6%). Yes, their defense tends to be lacking, but that wouldn’t matter as much against the 29th-ranked offense in the Thunder.
Clippers forwards Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have combined to score nearly 50 a game. So prayers up for the Thunder as they hope to slow them down. Clippers cover confidently.
Pick: Los Angeles Clippers to win and cover -12.5 (-110)
Give me Blowouts Parlay
Brooklyn to cover -11.0 (-110), Charlotte to win (-163), and Clippers to cover -12.5 (-110) at +488
We’re banking on two blowouts for these sports betting picks to cash plus for Charlotte, the swing bet, to handle business against Chicago. But at nearly 5-1 of a payout, this is worth a stab. Brooklyn and the Clippers are significantly better than their opponents while Charlotte’s better defense will win the night.
