T-Wolves Looking For Change Under New Head Coach
Minnesota fired Ryan Saunders on Sunday, replacing him with Toronto Raptors assistant Chris Finch the next day. After falling against Milwaukee on Tuesday in his debut, the Timberwolves lost their second straight game under their new head coach the following night.
Minnesota was on the wrong end of a narrow 133-127 overtime road loss against Chicago the last time out. The loss marked the second straight game the T-Wolves gave up at least 130 points.
Malik Beasley scored a team-high 25 points and Karl-Anthony Towns earned 24 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Rookie shooting guard Anthony Edwards added 21 points in the loss.
“We’re not playing the best defensively right now, and we’ve got to find ourselves,” Towns said.
Minnesota averages an uninspiring 108.2 points per game (24th) on 43.8% shooting from the field (29th) and 35.5% from three-point distance (21st). Defensively, the T-Wolves allow 116.1 points per game (27th) on 47.8% shooting from the field (27th) and 37.9% from beyond the arc (23rd).
Neither team fares well to win their conference. Minnesota isn’t even in contention enough to be listed on the board, while Washington boasts +4000 odds to win the East in our NBA Conference Championship Odds.
Beal, Wiz, Look To Keep Push Going
The Wizards are heating up nicely as we close out the month of February. Washington won six of seven (and seven of its last 10) games overall, including a thrilling 112-110 road upset of Denver on Thursday night.
League leading scorer Bradley Beal went for a game-high 33 points and Denver completely blew what should have been a game-tying play as regulation ended.
“I’m happy as hell, I can tell you that,” Beal said afterward.
Rui Hachimura added 20 points, while Russell Westbrook had a triple-double with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The Wizards completed the regular season sweep after beating Denver, 130-128, on Feb. 17.
Washington averages a healthy 114.5 points per game (9th) on 46.0% shooting from the field (18th) and 34.3% from beyond the arc (29th). Defensively, the Wizards allow a whopping 119.5 points per game (29th) on 47.5% shooting from the field (23rd) and 38.5% shooting from three-point distance (25th).
Expert Analysis and Prediction
Washington might not be an elite title contender by any stretch of the imagination, but the Wizards are still a lot better than Minnesota and, apparently, still getting better.
The Timberwolves are 0-6 ATS in their last six and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against Washington. The Wizards have gone a bankroll-boosting 6-1 ATS over their last half-dozen games — winning three straight at Capital One Arena while beating two NBA Finals contenders, Denver and Boston, during the stretch.
Bradley Beal will have his way against Minnesota’s non-existent defense and Russell Westbrook should easily go for another triple-double. Don’t think twice about it, NBA betting faithful. The Wizards will win a high-scoring affair.
Pick: Wizards 128 Timberwolves 120
