Portland continues its undefeated road trip, but beating a well-rested Hawks team at home is easier said than done.
Atlanta is tied with Miami for first place in the Southeast Division, but it’s sotight in the Eastern Conference and a win could provide some separation.
The online sportsbook has Atlanta as slight favorites, but bettors should expect plenty of line movement on game day.
Hawks Bounce Back
The winning record of the Hawks was starting to get away from them after three consecutive losses to Detroit and Philadelphia. However, a stabilizing win over Chicago is just what the doctor ordered.
It was a must-win 108-97 victory for Atlanta, which welcomed back Trae Young. Having Young back in the team is a huge plus as the Hawks try to improve their playoff position and avoid the play-in tournament.
They are only one win ahead of the Boston Celtics for seventh, so beating the Trail Blazers couldn’t be more important.
The win against the Bulls secured a top-10 spot in the East, which pleased Young.
“It shows a huge improvement from where we’ve been to where we are now,” Young told NBA.com. “It’s really good to see.
“Our goal was to get into the playoffs this year, and that’s still on the table for us, but we don’t want to settle for just that. We want more than that.”
Young’s 25.5 points per game is vital for the Hawks. When the team is healthy their potential is through the roof.
Portland Comes Blazing into Atlanta
There is no team hotter over the last week than Portland, which has scored wins over Indiana, Memphis, Brooklyn and Boston.
It scored over 127 points in all four wins and the offensive explosion is the primary reason for the winning streak. Dropping 129 points on Boston’s defense is a solid effort and it has been happening on the road.
This will be Portland’s fifth straight road game, so scoring totals of 133, 130, 128, and 129 away from home is some effort.

It comes as no surprise to bettors who follow Portland. It’s a team that can get hot at any moment, especially when you have Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and new recruit Norman Powell.
Powell has given the Blazers an extra scoring option as well as defense. The acquisition has clearly worked and Portland is now 36-28 and sixth in the Western Conference. The Trail Blazers are tied with Dallas and Los Angeles.
A win against the Hawks could see them improve to fifth, which would be important in the grand scheme of things.
What Happened Last Time?
The Trail Blazers got the better of Atlanta 112-106, but it came early in the season. It improved the Blazers to 8-5 on the back of Lillard’s 36 points.
Despite shooting worse than Atlanta from the field, Portland was much better from behind the three-point line. It proved to be vital as the Blazers rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit.
Young dropped 26 points from 7-of-23 shooting, so there is plenty of room for improvement for the Hawks. Their young shooters have continued to improve and they’ll be keen to get revenge for the loss.
Trail Blazers vs Hawks Betting Trends
The betting trends favor Portland, which has a 5-1 against the spread record in the last six meetings against Atlanta. However, it’s also 1-5 ATS in the last six Monday games.
Atlanta doesn’t enjoy playing on Monday, either, with a record of 0-4 ATS in its last four.
The Trail Blazers are 4-0 ATS in their last four road games and the margin of victory has been significant. They have covered the spread by totals of 9, 16, 22½ and 15 points, so they have been scoring easy covers.
The same can’t be said for Atlanta, which covered against Chicago by 2½ points after failing to cover in the previous three games. Those losses came by 18½, 34½, and 14½.
Having had a day off will help the Atlanta Hawks and they will be well-rested and ready to fire.
Portland is on a back-to-back after beating Boston and playing on the road could take its toll this time around.
NBA lines have Atlanta as narrow favorites and bettors get excellent value. Atlanta is in a better position to win and Portland’s run should come to an end.
