College Basketball Betting Matchup of the Week: Louisville Cardinals at Kentucky Wildcats

It's almost conference season in college basketball, but there are still some great non-conference games on the schedule. The Kentucky Wildcats will host in-state rival Louisville Cardinals on Saturday in what should be a terrific game. The Cardinals have been the better team so far this season, but none of that matters when these two teams take the floor.

Louisville comes into this game with a record of 11-1, and spent some time atop the college basketball polls this season. The Cardinals have a veteran team that won't be afraid to play in a tough environment. Kentucky has had an up and down season, but will enter this game with an 8-3 record. The Wildcats have lost two straight games, and need to turn their season around.

Cardinals Get it Done on Both Ends

The Louisville Cardinals might not have a ton of NBA talent on their roster, but their team concept has been terrific on both ends of the floor. Louisville is averaging 76.7 points per game this season, while only allowing 58.4 points per game. The Cardinals do have just one win over a top-25 team this season, but that was a dominating victory over the Michigan Wolverines.

Forward Jordan Nwora is an NBA talent on the Louisville roster, and he has been tremendous this season. Nwora leads the team with 21.2 points per game, while also pulling down 7.5 rebounds per game. Guard Ryan McMahon leads the team with 31 three-pointers made, and his outside shooting is crucial in this game.

Kentucky Showing Some Growing Pains

The Kentucky Wildcats have a roster full of youngsters again this season, and they haven't shown up in every game. Kentucky beat Michigan State in the season opener, but a bad loss to Evansville highlights their inconsistent play. The Wildcats are scoring 74.5 points per game this season, while allowing just 61 points per game. There is no denying the fact that Kentucky has the weapons to win this game.

Point guard Ashton Hagans has led the way for Kentucky this season, but he could use some help. Hagans leads the team with 13.9 points and 7.3 assists per game, and really sets things up on offense. Kentucky has really struggled to shoot the ball this season, making just 49 three-point shots this season. The Wildcats will need to do everything well to beat their rival.

Kentucky Picks Up Huge Home Victory

Things have not gone well for the Kentucky Wildcats this season, but this is a game that could turn things around. This is one of the best rivalries in the country and Rupp Arena is going to be rocking. Kentucky has some bad losses on their resume, but they are going to pick up a monster win in this game.
