College Basketball Game of the Week: Marquette Golden Eagles at Butler Bulldogs

College basketball is heating up as teams begin building their resumes in an effort to make the NCAA Tournament. The Big East Conference is one of the most underrated leagues in the country, and that is where we find the college basketball game of the week. The Butler Bulldogs host the Marquette Golden Eagles, and each team is looking to build some momentum.

Butler continues to be ranked inside of the top-25, but they have not been playing well of late, The Bulldogs come into the week having lost two straight, but they still have a record of 15-3. Marquette enters the week having won two straight, and they are 3-3 in conference play. The Golden Eagles enter the week with an overall record of 13-5, and they need some resume building wins.

Howard Needs Some Help For Marquette

The Golden Eagles have one of the best players in the country in guard Markus Howard. Howard is scoring over 28 points per game this season, and he very rarely leaves the floor for Marquette. The problem for Marquette has been finding ways to give him some help, and shooting the basketball has been a struggle for this team at times. The Golden Eagles will need to shoot the ball well in this game to pull off the road win.

Marquette is scoring over 77 points per game as a team, and they have scored at least 84 points in their two most recent games. The Golden Eagles have allowed just 68 points per game this season, but they will not be the best defensive team on the floor. Marquette will do all that they can to speed up the tempo on Friday night in an effort to make the Bulldogs uncomfortable.

Butler Needs Offense to Return

Butler has really struggled to find offense of late, and it is costing them a chance to win some games. The Bulldogs averaged just 68 points per game in their two most recent losses, and that is not going to get the job done against Marquette. Butler is holding teams to less than 58 points per game this season, and they are one of the best teams in the country on that end of the floor.

The Bulldogs do have terrific guard play this season, and they have plenty of scoring options. Guard Kamar Baldwin leads the team with over 15 points per game, but they have several players who can step up at anytime. The Bulldogs value taking care of the ball, and they are hard to beat if they are making shots.

Bulldogs Get Huge Big East Victory

Things have not gone well for Butler of late, but there is still plenty of time left in the season to turn it around. Butler is always tough to beat on their home floor, and they will find a way to slow down Markus Howard in this game. The Golden Eagles have struggled to score if Howard is shut down, and that's going to happen in this one. Bet the Butler Bulldogs over the Marquette Golden Eagles in the Big East Conference showdown on Friday night.
