San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Betting Line: Kansas City -1, Total 54.5

It's game week in the NFL. Super Bowl LIV is set to go down on Sunday, February 2nd at the Hard Rock Stadium in sunny Miami Gardens, FL. The San Francisco 49ers will take on the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Niners and Chiefs are two very different teams. Kansas City is a very pass-heavy offense while San Fran is a bit more balanced offensively. The Chiefs pass for 281.1 yards and rush for 98.1 yards per game. The Niners pass for 237 and rush for 144.1 yards per game.

In two playoff games, Mahomes has passed for 615 yards and eight touchdowns to zero interceptions. He leads NFL quarterbacks with a passer rating of 131.5 this postseason.

Jimmy Garoppolo has had pretty pedestrian numbers in the postseason thus far. The former Patriots back-up QB has passed for just 208 yards and one touchdown along with one INT. He's got a passer rating of 83.6.

On the ground it's a completely different story. Raheem Mostert leads all starting running backs not named Derrick Henry with 278 rushing yards, 6.8 yards per carry, and four rushing touchdowns in two playoff games. He's accompanied by Tevin Coleman who has ran for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 4.5 yards per carry.

The defensive edge goes to San Francisco. They've allowed the fewest yards per game and points per game heading into the Big Game. Defense has been a cornerstone of this team's success all season.

San Fran led the NFL with just 169.2 passing yards allowed per game. Their 281.8 total yards allowed was second only to New England. This pass defense will have their hands full with KC's Patrick Mahomes.

Patrick Mahomes is an undeniable force in this league. When he's under center, anything is possible. The Chiefs punched their ticket to the Big Game by first wiping out a 24-0 first half deficit to beat Houston 51-31. He finished the game with a passer rating of 134.6 after throwing for 321 yards and five touchdowns.

Mahomes followed up that performance by leading the Chiefs to a comeback against Tennesse in the AFC Championship. The Titans were up 17-7 midway through the second quarter. Showtime passed for 294 yards and three touchdowns with 120.4 passer rating. The Chiefs won the game 35-24.

The Chiefs were my early pick to win the Super Bowl. They made it this far and I'm sticking with them. San Fran's defense is concerning, but Mahomes is the future. The future starts now.
