Super Bowl LIII Betting Preview

The stage is set and the New England Patriots will meet the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII. Both the Patriots and Rams survived thrilling overtime Conference Championship games to reach the big stage. This game is also a rematch of the thrilling 2002 Super Bowl, when the Rams were located in St. Louis.

New England went on the road and knocked off the top seeded Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game. The Patriots had a mediocre regular season, but finished with an 11-5 record. Los Angeles also went on the road and beat the New Orleans Saints and got some revenge on the Saints for a regular season loss. The Rams finished the regular season with a 13-3 record. New England has opened up as a 1.5 point favorite in the Super Bowl.

Rams Will Need Gurley Against Patriots

Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley was largely ineffective in the NFC Championship Game, and wasn't on the field for some of the biggest plays. Gurley has just 20 rushing attempts in these playoffs, but is averaging 6.3 yards per carry. The Rams had one of the best offenses in the NFL during the regular season, but they aren't as explosive without a healthy Todd Gurley. A solid running game will also help out an up and down Rams defense.

Head coach Sean McVay is known as an offensive genius, but he faces a tough test against Bill Belichick in this game. McVay called a brilliant fake punt early in the game against the Saints that helped to turn the game around. There will also be a ton of pressure on quarterback Jared Goff in this game. Goff has completed just 58 percent of his passes in the postseason, but he has the ability to put up a huge game against the Patriots.

Patriots Running Game Helping Defense

The Patriots are using an old formula to win games: a solid running attack, and stellar defense. New England has ran the ball 82 times for 331 yards and they have had some long drives in the postseason. Rookie running back Sony Michel has five rushing touchdowns already this postseason, but the Patriots hand the ball off to several different players.

Quarterback Tom Brady was brilliant against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game, and is looking for his 6th Super Bowl victory. Brady has completed over 71 percent of his passes this postseason, and the Patriots are great at throwing short passes. Tight end Rob Gronkowski might be playing in his final NFL game in the Super Bowl, and you can expect him to have a big impact.

Patriots Win Super Bowl...Again

Super Bowl LIII will feature a young up and coming team, versus one of the best dynasties in professional sports. The Patriots simply know how to get the job done in the playoffs, and Bill Belichick will have something up his sleeve for McVay's offensive attack. The Rams will be a Super Bowl Champion in the near future, but it won't bet this season. There is no way I'm betting against Tom Brady and the Patriots. Bet New England -1.5 over the Los Angeles Rams.
