Buffalo Bills
While it might not mean anything in the end, the Buffalo NFL injury report after Thursday’s practice won’t make the Bills’ Mafia feel any better about it.
Having cleared the report the day before, WR Cole Beasley is back, limited by the knee injury that called his availability into question last week. He played, and should be expected to again, but it will cause concern if he’s limited on the final Friday practice because WR Stefon Diggs also spent his second-consecutive day limited with an oblique injury.
Both Diggs and Beasley are needed and likely to be upgraded by week’s end and be active on Sunday, but that’s not so likely for WR Gabriel Davis (ankle). He missed a second straight day of practice and is still listed questionable.
Same goes for DT Vernon Butler, as he missed Thursday’s practice too and is listed questionable for a quadriceps injury.
Some good news, as DE Quinton Jefferson (ankle) cleared the injury list after participating in Thursday’s practice in full.
Kansas City Chiefs
“Pat looks like Pat.” That’s how offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy described the quarterback’s performance in Thursday’s practice.
Everyone’s opinion on Patrick Mahomes‘ injury is noteworthy, but the only opinion that really matters is that of the independent neurologist responsible for clearing him to play before Sunday. Mahomes is still in the concussion protocol, however is now believed to not necessarily be concussed as much as suffer from a deep-neck nerve pinch.
At any rate, Mahomes participated in a second day of limited practice, and all signs point to him participating with the first team with every intention of playing. While there’s still anxiety about passing the final clearance, Mahomes also isn’t reporting symptoms and should be expected to be active for the Championship game.
It’s not so clear for CB Bashaud Breeland who is also on the concussion protocol, hasn’t practiced and is listed questionable.
Another concern for Kansas City came on Wednesday when RB Le’Veon Bell’s knee swelled up. He was held out of Thursday’s practice and is now listed questionable. His Friday practice status will be anticipated.
The only other player to miss Thursday’s practice, backup MLB Willie Gay hasn’t played since injurying his ankle in the season finale. His status is closer to doubtful than his listed questionable designation.
The other three reported players all practiced in limited fashion on Thursday and are still listed questionable. Of them, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire (ankle), WR Sammy Watkins (calf) and CB Rashad Fenton (foot) all missed last week’s game.
