The Atlanta Falcons (3-6) look to crash the party on the NFC South leading New Orleans Saints (7-2) this Sunday. The Falcons are 3-1 since firing Dan Quinn, and are 7-1 ATS in their previous eight games as a road underdog. Last November, Atlanta entered The Big Easy as 14-point underdogs, and wound up winning the game outright 29-6. The Saints are of course playing without Drew Brees, and backup QB Jameis Winston’s performance in relief so far has been uninspiring. Winston looked shaky last week against the 49ers, taking two red zone sacks and tossing what should have been an interception. The man who led the NFL with 30 interceptions in 2019. will likely be more comfortable on the field this week. However, he can’t be trusted and the Falcons will do everything they can to spoil the Saints’ fun. Word on the street says the Saints might start Taysom Hill at QB, but that’s likely just a tip of the hat, and we expect to see split duties. Take Atlanta +4. Falcons 27, Saints 28 but don’t be surprised if Atlanta pulls off the upset in New Orleans.
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
Matt Ryan, Todd Gurley, Julio Jones and all the Atlanta Falcons are well rested after a much-needed bye week. The Falcons are not winning a lot, but that doesn’t prevent them from being a productive team with 27 points per game. Ryan has thrown for 2,476 yards (third best in the league) and the total has gone under in four of Atlanta’s last six games.
The New Orleans Saints should be worried as Drew Brees has been told to be careful. The veteran QB has fractured ribs and a collapsed lung, which is why he will be away from the field for several weeks. The Saints should be fine with Alvin Kamara, Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders and Jared Cook leading the way, but neither Jameis Winston nor Taysom Hill is nearly as good as Brees.
New Orleans average 30.1 points per game (fourth best in the league) and the total has gone under in five of their last seven games when playing at home against the Falcons.
Last season, both Saints vs Falcons games went under 50½ points (26-9 and 26-18). Go under in a close one.
