Straight Up (Gilad Chudler)
The Carolina Panthers suffered a tough loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, losing 34-30. They rallied in the fourth quarter racking up 15 points but still came up shy.
Teddy Bridgewater completed 22-of- 34 attempts and threw for 269 yards and a touchdown. Christian McCaffrey had 23 carries, rushed for 96 yards and scored twice. Robby Anderson had 6 receptions for 114 yards and a touchdown.
The Buccaneers also fell short to the New Orleans Saints, 34-23. It was Tom Brady’s debut. Brady completed 23-of-36 attempts, threw for 239 yards and 2 interceptions. He also managed to rush into the end zone for a touchdown.
On the receiving end O.J. Howard and Mike Evans each scored, but Chris Godwin had the most receptions with 6 and 79 yards.
The Buccaneers shouldn’t have much trouble and will likely win.
Against the Spread (Sebastian Morera)
The Bucs failed to live up to the hype in their 2020 debut against the Saints. Now we’re left wondering if their lack of success should be attributed to Tom Brady and the Buccaneers’ offense or to the Saints’ defense. This contest against Carolina should help us size up Tampa Bay more clearly.
Carolina is coming off a tough 34-30 loss to the Raiders. Teddy Bridgewater finished with a 98.9 passer rating but was ultimately outshined by Derek Carr. Christian McCaffrey however, looked great as he delivered 96-rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.
Accounting for the success Carr enjoyed against the Panthers, we should see Brady put up better numbers than he did in Week 1. The six-time Super Bowl Odds champion enters this weekend’s action with 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions to his name as a Buc. I’m fully expecting Brady to come in ticked off, put up an eye-catching stat sheet and lead the Bucs to a .500 start.
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
Another Divisional Matchup from the NFC South between two teams with plenty of new faces. The Carolina Panthers scored 30 points against Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1 mainly due to the good performance of Christian McCaffrey (134 total yards and 2 TD), but their defense allowed 34 points.
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looked kind of good, but they need more time, or a more accessible rival, to exploit their full potential. Mike Evans and Rob Gronkowski need to be more involved and these could be the last days of RB Ronald Jones as the starter.
Last year, the Panthers won in Tampa Bay 37-26 and the total has gone over in six of Carolina’s last seven games. Go over in an exciting one.
