Straight Up (Sebastian Morera)
The Broncos are 1-3 on the year but are coming off their first win of 2020. Granted, that victory came against the worst team in the AFC East. Now they get to face off against the New England Patriots, who just activated Cam Newton off the COVID-19 reserve list. Had Newton not been in the starting lineup, Denver might have had a chance. However, with the veteran now under center, it’s clear New England will be winning this one as they break their current two-game losing streak.
Against the Spread (Devlin Duckett)
The Denver Broncos (1-3) head to Foxboro to tangle with the New England Patriots (2-2) on Sunday. The Broncos beat the Jets to get in the 2020 win column, but that’s not much of an accomplishment. Rookie QB Brett Rypien has performed pretty well while filling in for the injured Drew Lock, and he may get to continue playing with the big boys if Denver elects to give Lock another week to recover more fully.
New England’s defense is still fairly decent, giving up an average of 23 points per game. The Broncos are right behind the Patriots, allowing 24 ½ PPG on average. However, it looks like NE is getting QB Cam Newton back from COVID, and that makes all the difference here. Patriots’ head coach/football guru Bill Belichick will not permit his team to fall below .500 in a loss at home vs the lowly Broncos. Expect Belichick to have his troops properly motivated, and for there to be a Patriots blowout Week 6 in New England.
It’s Raining Ducketts: Free ATS Pick, New England Patriots -10
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
Somehow, the forced bye benefited the Denver Broncos because they can count on QB Drew Lock and TE Noah Fant, offensive bastions.
RB Philip Lindsay will be back too, which means we are going to see a backfield tandem with Lindsay and Melvin Gordon. That plan could be disrupted because of Gordon’s DUI arrest Tuesday night.
Denver averages 20.5 points per game and the total has gone under in five of the Broncos’ last six games played in October.
QB Cam Newton and CB Stephon Gilmore are being evaluated day-to-day. If both can play, the New England Patriots will be huge favorites.
The Patriots average 24.3 points per game and the total has gone over in seven of New England’s last ten games against Denver. Go under in a good defensive matchup.
