Against the Spread (Devlin Duckett)

The Detroit Lions (4-5) and Carolina Panthers (3-7) are each fighting for their playoff lives right now. With a shot at the NFC Wild Card at stake, these two feisty cats square off in Charlotte this Sunday. Carolina is favored by 1½ points, and should cover the spread at home here. Both the Lions and Panthers are dealing with a ridiculous amount of injuries, which more or less balance each other out. QBs Matt Stafford (DET) and Teddy Bridgewater (CAR) are hobbled, and the defenses are battered and weak. In a situation like this, I prefer to roll with the home team, particularly with such a small spread. Also, the Panthers are 5-2 ATS over their previous seven games. Panthers 31, Lions 28

Over/Under (Zack Robinson)

QB Matthew Stafford remains questionable with a thumb injury, but the Detroit Lions remain confident that the veteran is going to play against the Carolina Panthers. Stafford comes from one of his best games in 2020 after throwing for 276 yards and three touchdowns. WR Kenny Golladay remains questionable too (hip), during his absence Marvin Jones Jr and TE T.J. Hockenson have been the preferred targets.

The Lions average 25.2 points per game and the total has gone over in eight of Detroit’s last twelve games.

Teddy Bridgewater and Christian McCaffrey are questionable. Without them, the Carolina Panthers are not the same dangerous, dual-threat team. If neither can play, the Panthers would have to rely on P.J. Walker and Mike Davis.

The Panthers average 23.3 points per game and the total has gone under in four of Carolina’s last six games against an opponent from the NFC North.

Too many injuries and doubts; go under.
