Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings History
Green Bay is looking for their third straight win over Minnesota. They won both 2019 match-ups over their NFC North rival. The first game, in Week 2, ended in a 21-16 win for the Packers. Game 2 in Week 16 went 23-10 in favor of the road team. All in all these two have met 119 times. Of those 119 the Packers lead the series 62-54-3.
Prior to last year, the Vikings were 3-0-1 over Green Bay over the two previous seasons.
Last Season Recap
As previously mentioned, the Packers got the better of the Vikings last season. Their first meeting came in Week 2 when the Pack hosted Minnesota. Thanks to Aaron Rodgers’ 209 passing yards, 2-touchdown performance, the Packers managed to come out on top 21-16. The running game made a considerable contribution to the victory as well. Most notably Aaron Jones, who finished the contest with 116 rushing yards, and a lone touchdown.
Kirk Cousins, despite all the money Minnesota threw at him, came up short in this contest. His stat sheet would read 230 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions once the match was over. Dalvin Cook was the bigger threat on the day. Cook put up 154 rushing yards, one touchdown, and an eye-raising 7.7 rushing yards per attempt.
The pair would meet again in Week 16 with Minnesota hosting this time around. The home-field advantage would not be enough to defeat their NFC North division rivals as the Packers would come out on top 23-10. This time around, however, the running game would be the driving force behind Green Bay’s triumph.
Rodgers only managed to complete 26/40 passing attempts, putting up 216 passing yards, no touchdowns with a single interception. Aaron Jones would be the leading rusher once again. In this contest, he put up a whopping 154 rushing yards and added two rushing touchdowns to his stats as well.
Cook was forced to sit out for this match due to a chest injury. Ultimately this put more pressure on Cousins to step up to the plate. Unsurprisingly, Cousins would once again struggle against the Pack, finishing the day with just 122 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Green Bay Packers vs Minnesota Vikings News & Betting Picks
Below we’ll be taking an in depth look at the Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings matchup. Check out the latest news from both sides including injury reports, player interviews, and last year’s team statistics.
There’s trouble in Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers seems to be on the outs after the team surprisingly selected QB Jordan Love with the 26th pick of the draft. Even more surprising was the fact that the team traded a 1st and a 4th to Miami to hop up a couple of spots in the draft. Some NFL betting pundits have questioned this move, stating that the teams Green Bay jumped over weren’t really looking for a QB (Seattle, Baltimore, Tennessee).
Rodgers was hoping the team would add an offensive weapon to his arsenal. Instead, the team drafted his potential replacement. They added some help in the backfield in the second round with running back A.J. Dillon from Boston College and tight end Josiah Deguara in the third round.
There were some solid options at WR still available when Green Bay picked Love. Tee Higgins (Clemson), Michael Pittman Jr. (USC), Leviska Shenault (Colorado), and K.J. Hamler (Penn State) were among the available receivers. One wonders what they’re communicating to two-time NFL MVP.
The Vikings knocked the Saints out of the playoffs earlier than expected. Kirk Cousins passed for 242 yards and a touchdown. He led the Vikings to a 75-yard drive in overtime and hit Kyle Rudolph for the game-winning touchdown from five yards out.
Kirk Cousins passed for 3,603 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions while completing 69.1% of his passes. Cousins’ 107.4 passer rating was a career-best.
Cousins will be without his #1 receiver last year. Stefon Diggs left the Vikings for Buffalo in the offseason. That means more passes for Adam Thielen, Kyle Rudolph, and newcomer Justin Jefferson.
Minnesota had 15 picks in this year’s draft, the most of any NFL team.
Dalvin Cook is quickly becoming one of the best running backs in the league. He’s steadily increased his offensive output and has become an integral part of this Minnesota offense. He rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2019 and added another 519 receiving yards.

Top NFC North Teams Battle
Easily one of the most exciting games for Sunday, the Green Bay Packers are coming off of a stellar 2019. They finished with a 13-3 record last year taking the NFC North Division. They lost in the NFC Championship Game to the San Francisco 49ers, but were only a few touchdowns away from playing in the Super Bowl Odds.
Aaron Rodgers is reaching the end of his career. He started at QB for the Packers back in 2008 but he still has enough talent and energy left to make another run as long as he stays healthy.
The Vikings had a decent showing last season as well finishing 10-6 despite losing their last two games. Four of their losses came at the hands of their NFC North rivals and they only were able to defeat the last-place Lions twice.
Both teams made the playoffs last season and it will be fun to watch this season opener between two bitter rivals. We’re expecting Kirk Cousins to come out strong for the Vikings in the QB position, upsetting the Packers to open the season. Consider a point spread bet on Minnesota.
Over/Under Pick (Zack Robinson)
The Green Bay Packers keep having some trouble to surround Aaron Rodgers with first class offensive talent, leaving him with just RB Aaron Jones and WR Davante Adams. Despite that, in HC Matt LaFleur first season, Green Bay ended 13-3 including two victories (21-16 and 23-10) against the Minnesota Vikings.
The Vikes keep trusting in QB Kirk Cousins, but RB Dalvin Cook looks like the one who will be carrying the team offensively speaking. The total has gone under in five of the last five games between the Packers and Vikings played in Minnesota; go under once again.
