Against the Spread (Devlin Duckett)

The New England Patriots (5-6) find themselves on the outside looking in, scrambling for a last-minute playoff spot. The Patriots have managed to win three of their last four games, although it’s generally been by the skin of their teeth. New England edged Arizona at home 20-17 in Week 12, and are in playoff positioning desperation mode. The Los Angeles Chargers (3-8) are rocking the basement of the AFC West, but have fought hard this year. Rookie QB Justin Herbert usually finds a way to keep the Bolts in the game. L.A.’s previous four losses were only by an average of six points, so the Chargers were always sniffing around for the victory. This game is currently slated as a pick’em, yet L.A. is better both offensively and defensively, on paper. The difference lies in the coaching. Patriots’ head coach Bill Belichick is worth 100 Anthony Lynns, and he’ll be scheming his butt off in Los Angeles. Based on the Belichick quotient alone, New England will win this game to level off at .500 for the season. Patriots 34, Chargers 24

Over/Under (Zack Robinson)

Cam Newton is having a regular year as the New England Patriots quarterback. The former MVP comes from a poor performance against the Arizona Cardinals (84 passing yards and two interceptions), but the Patriots’ still won. Bill Belichick has made some defensive changes and the defense has been playing a lot better. RB’s James White and Damien Harris also took a lot of pressure off from Newton’s shoulders.

The Patriots average 20.8 points per game and the total has gone over in four of New England’s last five games played in December.

Justin Herbert is having a wonderful year as the Los Angeles Chargers quarterback, but the team is not. Offensively speaking, they need to run the ball a lot better (Austin Ekeler is back). Defensively speaking, Joey Bosa has been playing really well, but the rest of the unit have not, and they need to be more in sync.

The Chargers average 25.2 points per game and the total has gone over in seven of their last eight games. Go under.
