Against the Spread (Devlin Duckett)
The winless NY Jets (0-9) blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead against the Patriots back in Week 9, ultimately losing 30-27. NY has had almost two full weeks to ponder that painful loss, giving Adam Gase and the gang plenty of time to cook up new ways to lose. The L.A. Chargers (2-7) are the last potentially beatable team on the Jets’ 2020 calendar. My money is on an 0-16 finish, because it’s clear that Gase will be left to captain NY’s green and white flagship into the rocks. Ownership is happy to burn this season to the ground, watching from a safe distance. Both of these teams leave a lot to be desired. L.A. lost 29-21 last week to a Miami team that’s gaining momentum, and the Chargers are on a three-game skid. Los Angeles should snap that losing streak against the NFL’s worst offense and third-worst defense. My gut tells me that the Chargers will win the game, but fail to cover the spread. Chargers 27, Jets 21
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
The New York Jets have ruled out Sam Darnold, which means Joe Flacco will be under center once again. Against the New England Patriots in Week 9, Flacco threw for 262 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. One of the Jets’ biggest, and many, problems is the running game as they average 98.9 yards per game (sixth worst in the league).
The Jets average 13.4 points per game (worst in the league) and the total has gone under in four of their last six games against an opponent from the AFC West.
Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers have been playing really well, but they can’t win close games. Some things never change. The Chargers average 25.1 points per game, and Herbert averages almost 260 passing yards per game.
The total has gone over in their five last games. Go over once again in a blowout for the home side.
