Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington History
Washington has had a tough time fending off the Eagles lately. Philadelphia has beaten the Washington Football Team six straight times by an average of 12.8 points. That disparity is even higher when playing at FedEx Field where the Eagles are winning by an average of 15.7. Philadelphia is 5-1 ATS in those six games.
All in all these two have met each other 170 times prior. Washington leads the series 86-79-5.
Team Last Season Recap
Interestingly enough, these two also opened up their 2019 season by facing one another. The Eagles played host in that contest and took full advantage of their home-field advantage. Carson Wentz had a great outing, putting up 313 passing yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. On the ground, Philadelphia managed to rack up 123 rushing yards. Darren Sproles and Jordan Howard made the biggest contributions for the run game, each putting up over 40 rushing yards.
Surprisingly enough, Case Keenum actually put up some eye-raising numbers in his 2019 debut. Keenum would finish this Week 1 NFC East matchup with 380 passing yards, 3 touchdowns and no interceptions. In the end, even that wasn’t enough to defeat Philly as the Eagles emerged triumphant 32-27.
Washington would have their chance at revenge in Week 15 when they got to host Philadelphia. Dwayne Haskins filled in for a banged-up Keenum and finished the match with 261 passing yards, two touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The running game contributed 100 yards, but were unable to tilt the scales in their favor.
On the other side of the ball, Wentz delivered 266 passing yards and 3 touchdowns. However, there’s no denying that Miles Sanders had a monstrous game with 122 rushing yards, 1 touchdown and a 6.4 yards per attempt average. This helped secure Philadelphia’s 37-27 win, making it a season sweep over their rivals.

Get ready to dive into an NFL betting look at this Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington matchup. Below we’ll be covering the latest news regarding both teams, the latest injuries and even player/coach interviews. We’ll also be looking at both team’s stats from last season.
Despite suffering a multitude of injuries in 2019, particularly to their receiving corps, the Eagles still managed to outlast the Dallas Cowboys and win the NFC East. Sixteen different players caught a pass for the Eagles in 2019. This season, our sportsbook gives the Eagles +125 odds to win the division, behind Dallas at -130. Washington sits at +1600.
To add some depth at WR, the Eagles added former TCU WR Jalen Reagor to join Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and TE Zach Ertz.
Philadelphia boasts a solid offensive line (when healthy). Miles Sanders will be the starting back for the Eagles after sharing duties with Jordan Howard last season.
Oklahoma’s Jalen Hurts gives Philadelphia a credible back-up quarterback in the event that Wentz goes down again.
Malcolm Jenkins will be missed at safety.
After a rough start to his rookie season, Dwayne Haskins returns under center for Washington. He’ll do so with not much more added in terms of offensive weapons.
Adrian Peterson accompanies the quarterback in the backfield, and he will likely take on an expanded role now that former RB Derrius Guice was released following domestic violence charges laid on August 7. Meanwhile, Terry McLaurin, Steven Sim Jr., Kelvin Harmon, and Jeremy Sprinkle highlight the WR/TE unit.
After parting ways with Jay Gruden following another poor season in 2019, Washington will look to Ron Rivera for guidance at head coach this season. Rivera previously saw success in Carolina with a young Cam Newton. He can help the young Haskins improve and understand defensive schemes better.
Washington’s defense will be boosted by DE Chase Young, the second pick in this year’s draft. Young, was a true threat to Heisman Joe Burrow’s Heisman and status as #1 pick in the draft. He’ll play opposite Ryan Kerrigan in Washington’s Base 4-3 defense.

Straight Up Pick (Gilad Chudler)
Battle of the Quarterbacks
The Philadelphia Eagles had a bit of a wild season last year, but in the end they managed to make the playoffs. They lost three straight in the middle of the season, but climbed their way back from 5-7 to finish things off at 9-7. They lost to the Seahawks in the playoffs but overall had a good season.
Led by Carson Wentz on offense, he’ll be back in rhythm connecting with TE Zach Ertz who is typically Wentz’s main target. If they want to make the playoffs again, they’ll have to step things up on defense. RB Miles Sanders will also be much improved this season after an impressive rookie year.
The Washington Football team will feature a new head coach, Ron Rivera. He’ll have his work cut out for him and will look to improve on last years 3-13 finish. They’re also still featuring a relatively new offense led by second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins.
Washington’s biggest change this year will be the addition of DE Chase Young. He was the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and he’ll have big expectations placed on his shoulders to help turn this teams fortune around. In the end it will not be enough to overtake the Eagles who shouldn’t have any big issues winning this game.
Over/Under Pick (Zack Robinson)
The Philadelphia Eagles are being really cautious about Carson Wentz, but HC Doug Pederson confirmed that the QB will be ready to go. If healthy, Wentz can transform the Eagles offensive unit into a very productive one alongside RB Miles Sanders, TE Zach Ertz and WR’s DeSean Jackson, Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor (rookie).
HC Ron Rivera confirmed that Dwayne Haskins (7 TD/7 INT in 2019) will be the Washington Football Team starter QB for Week 1. This looks like Haskins’ last chance to win the job permanently, but the odds are against him. Both teams come with more doubts than answers; go under.
