Straight Up (Gilad Chudler)
The San Francisco 49ers are probably still reeling from their devastating Week 1 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. It was one of the biggest upsets of Week 1 and they’ll be looking to redeem themselves.
Jimmy Garoppolo completed 19-of-33 for 259 yards and two touchdowns. Raheem Mostert and George Kittle had 4 receptions each, while Mostert led the way with 95 yards and a touchdown.
All in all, it was a pretty quiet game for San Francisco offensively and they’ll have to turn up the volume to beat the New York Jets, who lost their first game to the Buffalo Bills 27-17.
Sam Darnold completed 21-of-35 attempts for 215 yards, one touchdown pass and an interception. Le’Veon Bell didn’t have such a hot start with only 6 carries for 14 yards. He’s out for a few weeks due to a hamstring injury. Jamison Crowder had a solid showing with 7 receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.
After suffering a major upset in Week 1, expect the 49ers to handily beat the Jets.
Against the Spread (Sebastian Morera)
San Francisco is coming off a Super Bowl Odds loss so that might be the reason behind its lackluster 2020 debut. Facing their NFC West rivals, the Niners were supposed to come out and show that they are still the team to beat in the division. Instead, we saw the Cardinals come out of nowhere and deliver a 24-20 upset over the reigning NFC champions. Now San Fran is looking to avoid an 0-2 start to the season but fortunately, they’re matched up against the Jets in Week 2.
The Jets are coming off a 27-17 loss to the Bills and are pegged as heavy underdogs. We didn’t see much improvement from Sam Darnold’s offense in Week 1 so I’ll be sticking with the Niners here.
Over/Under (Zack Robinson)
The San Francisco 49ers defense remains as one of the NFL’s best, but they need more help from the offense. QB Jimmy Garoppolo needs to be better, you can’t have one of the best TE’s in the league (George Kittle) and just throw five passes to him (RB Raheem Mostert finished as the 49ers best receiver against the Arizona Cardinals).
Yes, the New York Jets are still a mess. QB Sam Darnold is back, but Le’Veon Bell is injured once again, and they are really missing SS Jamal Adams (now with the Seattle Seahawks). WR’s Breshad Perriman and Chris Hogan need to be more involved in the game plan.
The total has gone over in five of San Francisco’s last seven games against an opponent from the AFC East. Go with the over in a blowout for the Niners.
