NFL Week 9 Matchups Overview

Week 9 kicks off Thursday Night with a matchup between historic franchises: Green Bay Packers (5-2) vs San Francisco 49ers (4-4).

The unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers (7-0) will face the banged-up Dallas Cowboys (2-6) and some of the best divisional matchups (six in total) are Detroit Lions (3-4) vs Minnesota Vikings (2-5) and New Orleans Saints (5-2) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-2).

Four teams will be on bye: the Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles.

We have you covered with the latest news, stats, info and NFL Odds for all matchups.

NFL Games of the Week

Last week, the Green Bay Packers surprisingly lost against the Minnesota Vikings. Now, Aaron Rodgers and the “Cheese-heads” try to bounce back against a San Francisco 49ers team with many injuries.

The Baltimore Ravens and the Indianapolis Colts, both with a 5-2 record and good defensive units, collide at Lucas Oil Stadium.

The New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which means Drew Brees vs Tom Brady will play for the second time this season, now at Raymond James Stadium.

Monday Night gives a great opportunity to the winless New York Jets (0-7) as they will play host to Cam Newton and the desperate New England Patriots (2-5).

Without further ado, here are our BetUS Games of the Week for Week 9 of the 2020 NFL Season. All game preview odds are as of writing.

  • Green Bay Packers (-5)

    VS

    San Francisco 49ers

    November 5, 8:20pm ET

In Week 8 against the Minnesota Vikings, Aaron Rodgers threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, but that wasn’t enough.

Green Bay is missing RB Aaron Jones, out the last couple of weeks due to injury. Jamaal Williams is a good backup, but not a solid starter.

The defense needs to be better as the Packers allow 26.7 points per game. Green Bay are 6-2 SU in their last eight games on the road.

Regarding the San Francisco 49ers, RB Tevin Coleman reinjured in Week 8 and they lost another divisional matchup against the Seattle Seahawks. But that’s not all, TE George Kittle and QB Jimmy Garoppolo will be out for at least 6 weeks.

Now, the Niners’ offense will be led by QB Nick Mullens and RBs JaMycal Hasty and Jerick McKinnon.

The 49ers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games at home against the Packers.

  • Baltimore Ravens (-3)

    VS

    Indianapolis Colts

    November 8, 1:00pm ET

The Baltimore Ravens come off a tough loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Lamar Jackson threw two interceptions and only WR Willie Snead finished the game with decent receiving numbers (106 yards). None of the other receivers finished with more than three receptions and 39 yards.

Now the signing of veteran Dez Bryant to their practice squad has more sense.

LT Ronnie Stanley suffered a season-ending injury after signing a huge extension.

The Indianapolis Colts beat the Detroit Lions in Week 8 and areco-leaders in the AFC South with the Tennessee Titans.

Philip Rivers played one of his best games in a Colts uniform, throwing for 263 yards and three touchdowns. He connected with 11 different receivers.

The Colts’ running game is improving with Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines supporting Jonathan Taylor. Actually, many believe that Wilkins should be the starter.

Indianapolis is 5-1 SU in its last six games at home.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Baltimore Ravens vs Indianapolis Colts matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • New Orleans Saints

    VS

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    November 8, 8:20 pm ET

In Week 1, Brees and the Saints beat Brady and the Buccaneers, 34-23.

Both Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders played in that game for the Saints, but they are questionable for this one.

On the Bucs’ side Chris Godwin finished with 6 receptions and 79 yards (team leader in both departments) but he’s also questionable. This could be the first game of the season for recently signed Antonio Brown.

The Saints and Buccaneers are clear favorites to win the NFC South over the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons. This game can be decisive.

New Orleans have won the last four games between these teams and they lead the all-time series 36-21-0.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our New Orleans Saints vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • New England Patriots (-7)

    VS

    New York Jets

    November 9, 8:15 pm ET

The New England Patriots have lost four games in a row, but next Monday they will be facing a New York Jets team that is the only winless team in the NFL.

Cam Newton and the Patriots are not in sync. The Pats’ were used to throw a lot with Brady under center, but Cam Newton feels more comfortable running (no touchdown passes in the last three games).

Right now, offensively speaking, the Patriots’ best player is RB Damien Harris, who finished the Week 8 matchup against the Buffalo Bills with 102 rushing yards and one touchdown.

The New York Jets are clearly in the campaign for Clemson’s QB Trevor Lawrence.

They haven’t won and they haven’t thrown a touchdown pass in their last three games.

Last season, the Patriots won both games (30-14 and 33-0). New England have won the last eight games between these teams and they lead the all-time series 67-54-1.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our New England Patriots vs New York Jets matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Seattle Seahawks (-2.5)

    VS

    Buffalo Bills

    November 8, 1:00 pm ET

Russell Wilson is happy to be the Seattle Seahawks quarterback as he looks to one side and D.K. Metcalf is there; he looks to the other side and Tyler Lockett is there, and both receivers are playing at an elite level.

The Seahawks’ offense is the most productive unit in the league (34.3 points per game) and they lead the NFC West with a 6-1 record.

Seattle are 10-3 in their last 13 games on the road.

The Buffalo Bills returned to the winning column after beating the New England Patriots 24-21 in Week 8, but QB Josh Allen played a mediocre game (177 total yards and one touchdown).

RB Zack Moss led the way with 81 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Many believe that Moss should be the starter and not Devin Singletary.

The Seattle Seahawks lead the all-time series 8-5-0, but they haven’t played since the 2016 season.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Seattle Seahawks vs Buffalo Bills matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Denver Broncos

    VS

    Atlanta Falcons

    November 8, 1:00 pm ET

What a comeback for Drew Lock and the Denver Broncos (21 points) in Week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Yes, the Broncos are practically out of the playoffs race, but they need to find out if Lock’s the answer.

First-year receivers Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler are getting more involved and the offense is definitely better when RB Philip Lindsay is on the field.

Denver is 1-6 SU in the last seven games against an opponent from the NFC.

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Carolina Panthers last Thursday Night, which means more rest for them.

Matt Ryan and Julio Jones remain as one of the best QB-WR duos in the league, and the defense has improved since Raheem Morris became the interim head coach.

Atlanta is 2-9 SU in the last 11 games at home.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Denver Broncos vs Atlanta Falcons matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Chicago Bears

    VS

    Tennessee Titans

    November 8 1:00 pm ET

Both the Chicago Bears and the Tennessee Titans lost in Week 8. The Bears fell to the New Orleans Saints and the Titans lost against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Nick Foles and the Bears offense looked better, but not good enough. Their running game has no impact.

Allen Robinson is playing well, but there’s no clear second receiver and they really need one.

The Titans scored 20 points against the Bengals. Derrick Henry ran for 112 yards and one touchdown while Ryan Tannehill threw for 233 yards and two touchdowns.

Tannehill has been good, but has thrown at least one interception in two of their last three games.

WR’s Corey Davis and A.J. Brown (152 combined yards and 2 total touchdowns in Week 8) are becoming a really scary offensive duo.

Surprisingly, the Titans are 1-5 SU in their last six games at home against the Bears.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Chicago Bears vs Tennessee Titans matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Detroit Lions

    VS

    Minnesota Vikings

    November 8, 1:00 pm ET

No rushing touchdown (or solid running game), no victory for the Detroit Lions.

That’s right, in Week 8 the Lions didn’t score a rushing touchdown for the first time in their last three games and they returned to the losing column.

Matt Stafford threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns, but the Indianapolis Colts’ defense never feared a big play through the ground.

The Minnesota Vikings surprised everybody with a 28-22 victory at Lambeau Field.

It was a huge game for RB Dalvin Cook, who finished with 226 total yards and four touchdowns.

That’s all you need to know about the Vikings. If Cook’s having a good day, Minnesota have a chance to win the game, if he’s not having a good day Kirk Cousins is usually not good enough to finish the job.

Minnesota is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games played in November.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Detroit Lions vs Minnesota Vikings matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Carolina Panthers

    VS

    Kansas City Chiefs

    November 8, 1:00 pm ET

Yes, the Carolina Panthers are 3-5, but Teddy Bridgewater has been good and don’t forget that Christian McCaffrey has been out.

The superstar running back could return in Week 9, but he remains day to day.

Carolina is 2-7 SU in its last nine games on the road.

Patrick Mahomes threw five touchdown passes in Week 8 against the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs remain at the top of the AFC West.

Right now, the Chiefs look like the team that could beat the Pittsburgh Steelers over the AFC.

The defense didn’t allow a touchdown pass for the second straight game and RB Le’Veon Bell is adapting to the system with the starting job at sight.

Kansas City are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games at home.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Carolina Panthers vs Kansas City Chiefs matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Houston Texans (-6½)

    VS

    Jacksonville Jaguars

    November 8, 1:00pm ET

The Houston Texans come off their bye week. Prior to that, they lost two games in a row.

In Week 5 the Texans beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-14 with a huge performance from DeShaun Watson (359 YDS, 3 TD) and Brandin Cooks (161 yards, 1 TD).

The Jacksonville Jaguars will have a new QB under center. Rookie Jake Luton, a sixth-round pick in the 2020  NFL Draft, will start for Jacksonville.

Luton will be replacing Gardner Minshew, who will be inactive due to a thumb injury.

The Jaguars haven’t won since Week 1 and they average 22 points per game.

Jacksonville is 2-4 ATS in their last 6 games at home.

The Texans lead the all-time series 24-13-0.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Houston Texans vs Jacksonville Jaguars matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • New York Giants

    VS

    Washington Football Team

    November 8, 1:00pm ET

The New York Giants were close to upsetting Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 8.

Finally, Daniel Jones got some help from the backfield as both Wayne Gallman and Dion Lewis scored. Veteran Alfred Morris replaced Devonta Freeman in the lineup.

The Giants’ only victory came against the Washington Football Team (20-19) in Week 6. Daniel Jones finished with 176 total yards and one touchdown.

Now, the Washington Football Team come off its bye week. Kyle Allen remains as the starting quarterback. In Week 5 against the Giants he threw for 280 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Washington’s two victories were against divisional rivals.

The Giants have won the last four games against the Washington Football Team and they lead the all-time series 104-69-4.

  • Las Vegas Raiders

    VS

    Los Angeles Chargers

    November 8, 4:05 pm ET

In Week 8, the Las Vegas Raiders beat the Cleveland Browns 16-6 in a defensive matchup.

Derek Carr threw only for 112 yards and one touchdown, but RB Josh Jacobs had a huge game with 128 rushing yards.

Darren Waller remains as Carr’s preferred target, rookie WR Henry Ruggs III needs to be more involved as a solid ‘Plan B’.

The Raiders are 5-1 ATS in their last six games on the road.

Justin Herbert looks like the answer for the Los Angeles Chargers, but the team have lost three of the last four games despite having good advantages heading into the fourth quarter.

With Kennan Allen on one side and Mike Williams on the other, Herbert can throw all day. TE Hunter Henry is also a solid option, mainly on third down.

Justin Jackson is looking like the answer at the backfield (89 yards in Week 8), at least until Austin Ekeler is back.

Last season, the Raiders won both games (26-24 and 24-17) and they lead the all-time series 65-54-2.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Las Vegas Raiders vs Los Angeles Chargers matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Pittsburgh Steelers (-9.5)

    VS

    Dallas Cowboys

    November 8, 4:25 pm ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers remain unbeaten after a thrilling victory (28-24) against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 8.

Juju Smith-Schuster and Chase Claypool took a step forward after Diontae Johnson got injured (questionable for Week 9). That also proved that Pittsburgh owns a very well-balanced offense and a powerful defense, both units can win the game.

The Steelers are 5-0 ATS in their last five games.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy and the Dallas Cowboys are in serious troubles.

Off course Ben DiNucci is not the answer; the entire offense is not motivated at all as Dallas didn’t score a touchdown for the second consecutive week.

The defense allows 33.3 points per game (worst in the league).

The Cowboys are 0-8 ATS in their last eight games.

Get in-depth pre-game analysis at our Pittsburgh Steelers vs Dallas Cowboys matchup page, as well as the latest team & player news, stats, injury & weather reports, and NFL Week 9 Odds.

  • Miami Dolphins

    VS

    Arizona Cardinals

    November 8, 4:25 pm ET

Tua Tagovailoa won his first professional career start with the Miami Dolphins. Yes, he only threw for 93 yards and one touchdown, but the entire team played a solid game against the Los Angeles Rams.

The Miami Dolphins are chasing the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East and their hopes of advancing into the Playoffs remain intact.

Their defense is the best in the league by allowing just 18.6 points per game.

Miami are 9-3 SU in their last 12 games against the Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals come from their bye week.

Kyler Murray and the Cardinals are fighting for the top spot in the NFC West against the Seattle Seahawks.

DeAndre Hopkins remains as one of the top WR in the league, and now he has more backup as Christian Kirk scored in their last two games.

The Cardinals are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games.
