We get an intra-conference matchup Sunday as the 2-6-1 Cincinnati Bengals take on the 2-7 Washington Football Team. The Bengals lost 36-10 to the Steelers last week, while Washington lost 30-27 to Detroit.
Host Washington is currently a 1½-point favorite for those betting online.

Moneyline: Cincinnati Bengals | Washington Football Team
Washington has a stronger line on each side of the ball. According to Pro Football Focus, their offensive line is 12th best at pass protection, while their pass rush is 10th best in the league. Contrast that with Cincinnati’s pass-blocking rank of 26th and pass-rushing grade of 32, and the disparity is pretty stark.
The game starts in the trenches, and the difference here has me leaning on the host Washington for NFL betting.
Pick: Washington to win
Point Spread: Washington -1½
The Bengals are one of the strongest teams in the NFL against the spread at 6-3. With such a small spread, can the Bengals keep it up, or will they drop one to a Washington team that is 4-5 against the spread?
Without Joe Mixon, Cincinnati will be forced to attack through the air with rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. Unfortunately, Washington has the fifth-stingiest pass defense in the NFL, giving it a strong advantage in this contest.
Pick: Washington to cover
Over/Under: 47 points
Forty-seven is a reasonable point total for these teams. The big NFL news has been seeing Washington quarterback Alex Smith start to settle in after a year-and-a-half hiatus from football, leading his team to 27 points last week. Smith will have opportunities to get the ball to his weapons, receiver Terry McLaurin and running back Antonio Gibson.
Washington has a tough secondary and has had a respectable rush defense as well. Burrow has been great in his rookie year, but the success may be waning against this solid unit. Wide receivers Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd have been a dynamic 1-2 punch but could be quieted against the fifth-ranked pass defense in the NFL.
Pick: Under 47
Final Score: Washington 24, Cincinnati 14
Props Talk For Cincinnati Bengals at Washingto Football Team
Washington should be able to find holes throughout this Cincinnati defense, and Smith should have plenty of time in the pocket going against the worst pass-rushing unit in the NFL. Given this, it’s the expectation here that the Washington passing game will have chances to pick up yards in chunks. Burrow and the Bengals have had a mediocre offense all year.
First Scoring Play: Washington TD +175
Washington has a clear advantage in this one. Let’s see if they can win the coin toss. If so, I’d expect a quick touchdown drive that sets the tone for both the spread and the over.
Total TDs in the Game: Under 5½ – 150
The Washington defense has been surprisingly strong. We touched on the strong secondary, but the run defense comes in strong as well at 14th best in the league.
The absence of Mixon could present some challenges for a Bengals offense that has struggled to score consistently.
Team to Score Three Unanswered Times: No +185
These teams are pretty evenly matched in terms of pure passing and rushing offense and defense. I don’t think we’ll see a blowout or any runs from either side. The NFL odds of +185 is a particularly strong value in what should be an evenly matched game throughout.
