NFL Odds: Green Bay -7
NFC Divisional Playoff Betting Analysis
I’ll be honest. I totally didn’t see the Los Angeles Rams getting past the Seattle Seahawks in the wild card round, but, they sure looked like legitimate contenders after beating up on Russell Wilson, 30-20.
I’m still no Jared Goff fan. However, the veteran did show some real grit by playing mistake-free football less than two weeks after undergoing thumb surgery. And on his dislocated right throwing hand, to be clear.
More importantly, rookie running back Cam Akers burned Seattle to the tune of 131 rushing yards and one touchdown on 28 carries while adding 45 receiving yards on two catches. Akers became the first Rams’ rookie to rush for over 100 yards in a playoff game.
“I thought he was really getting into a rhythm early on in the game,” Rams coach Sean McVay said. “We were able to control the time of possession, able to just eat up yards a little bit at a time. He’s a special player, he’s really tough.”
The Green Bay Packers are well-rested after getting a first-round bye last weekend. The Packers beat the hell out of Chicago 35-16 in their regular-season finale on Jan. 3 and finished the regular season ranked first in scoring (31.8 ppg) and 13th in points allowed (23.1 ppg).
Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers is playing like a spry rookie and will almost certainly win this season’s MVP award after passing for 4,299 yards with a league-high 48 TD passes and just five interceptions.
I like the Rams’ powerful defense and superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who finished second in sacks (13.5). However, I’ve got to believe Rodgers is going to be the best player on the field.
With that said, I’m going with the Packers to find a way to scratch out the narrow home win. Although I like the Rams and the points.
Green Bay’s run defense shut down Derrick Henry and David Montgomery in its last two regular-season contests. I believe they’ll find a way to at least stop Akersd.
I am concerned with how the Packers are going to move the ball through the air if Jalen Ramsey locks down Devante Adams. But again, I’m banking on Rodgers to get it done on the frozen tundra at Lambeau Field.
The Rams have gone 6-1 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games as a road underdog, but Green Bay wins to reach the NFC Championship at the very least!

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (12-5) vs New Orleans Saints (13-4)
When: Sunday, 6:40 p.m. ET
Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome, New Orleans, LA
NFL Odds: New Orleans -3
Total: 51 1/2
NFC Divisional Playoff Betting Betting Analysis
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were one of the sexy preseason picks to reach and win Super Bowl LV after acquiring living legend Brady to lead them to new heights. Tampa Bay managed to record 11 wins but, there have been plenty of bumps along the way.
However, the Bucs also got the brakes beat off by the New Orleans Saints twice and dropped three of four from Week 9 through Week 12. Plus, they beat a Washington Football Team that was without starting quarterback Alex Smith.
New Orleans didn’t look anything like a juggernaut while dispatching the Chicago Bears 20-9 in the Wild-Card round, but the Saints finished the regular season by putting 85 combined points on the board against the Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers in their final two games.
More importantly, New Orleans might have the best defense of any team still standing in the playoffs, the LA Rams notwithstanding.
It’s been a wild ride for Drew Brees. The future Hall of Famer has been without superstar wide receiver Michael Thomas for nine games. Brees sat out four weeks with fractured ribs.
Still, the most accurate passer in the game has managed to help put the Saints in a position to challenge for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. New Orleans finished an identical fifth in scoring (30.1 ppg) and points allowed (21.1 ppg). I fully believe they are going to duplicate the same success they’ve had against Brady and the Bucs.
Tampa Bay is 2-5 ATS in its last 7 games following a straight-up win and 1-4 ATS in its last five games as a road underdog. New Orleans is 4-0 ATS in its last four games as a home favorite and a near-perfect 7-1 ATS in its last eight games as a favorite.
I’m going with Drew Brees and the Saints to win and cover the spread as field goal home favorites.
NFC Divisional Playoff Betting Pick: New Orleans -3
If Green Bay and New Orleans do meet in the NFC Championship, I’m going with New Orleans to win and advance to Super Bowl LV. I know the Saints lost to the Packers 37-30 at home in an NFL week 3 matchup, but New Orleans picked up its play on defense in the second half of the season by limiting six of its final eight opponents to 16 points or less.
A lot of NFL followers don’t believe Green Bay will be beaten at home this postseason. But, I’m expecting Brees and the Saints to do just that if these two meet in the 2021 NFC Championship
NFC Divisional Playoff Betting Pick: New Orleans Reaches Super Bowl LV
