Week 13 represents the official start of the home stretch for the 2020 NFL season, and the postseason is imminent. This is when online sports betting hits a fever pitch, gaining momentum and building in intensity each and every week. Don’t miss out on all of the late-season NFL betting mania!
Our sportsbook’s most recent Super Bowl Odds rate the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs as the favorite to repeat. The Chiefs (+225) currently lead the pack, but it only takes one loss to shift the balance of power. Let’s examine the top-six teams’ updated NFL futures odds for the big game in Tampa Bay.
1. Kansas City Chiefs (+225)
Kansas City is 10-1, and appears primed for another successful postseason run. The bookmakers believe that Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs should win the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second consecutive year. If Kansas City repeats, it’ll be the first back-to-back Super Bowl champion since the 2003-04 New England Patriots.
Mahomes is playing out of this world and currently has the strongest regular-season MVP odds. “Saint Patrick” is poised to snatch the Associated Press MVP award out of the hands of Baltimore Ravens’ QB Lamar Jackson. Most recently, Mahomes completed 37-of-49 passes for 462 yards and three TDs against a sturdy Buccaneers’ defense.
The Chiefs held off a late comeback attempt by the Bucs in Tampa Bay, earning a 27-24 road victory in the NFL Week 12 matchup. If the undefeated Steelers stumble, KC could find itself with home-field advantage throughout the AFC playoffs. The Chiefs play host to the Denver Broncos next, and the Week 13 NFL betting odds have KC listed as 14-point favorites.
2. Pittsburgh Steelers (+500)
The Pittsburgh Steelers should change the name of Heinz Field to Dangerfield, because they get no respect. At 10-0, the Steelers aren’t projecting as the favorite to win the Super Bowl. Yes, some of Pittsburgh’s wins have been sloppy, but so have a couple of Kansas City’s (Los Angeles Chargers, Carolina Panthers).
3. New Orleans Saints (+550)
The New Orleans Saints have played most of 2020 without star WR Michael Thomas, and march on minus QB Drew Brees due to big NFL injury news. New Orleans has won eight straight since starting the season 1-2, and is shaping into an NFC powerhouse. Anything can happen in the playoffs, but if the Saints are healthy they’re the most likely NFC Champs, at least.
4. Seattle Seahawks (+750)
It’s hard to know what to make of this Seattle team. The Seattle Seahawks are 8-3, and have an MVP-candidate running a top-three offense. However, Seattle also has what might be the most porous defense in the league, despite fielding several big-name playmakers. The Seahawks have a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way, so if they can work out the kinks defensively we may see them competing for the Vince Lombardi trophy.
5. Green Bay Packers (+800)
The 8-3 Green Bay Packers always have a shot at winning the big game with Aaron Rodgers under center. Green Bay fields the NFL’s top offensive unit with Rodgers at the helm, but the defense needs to shape up. Rodgers nonchalantly tossed four touchdown passes in last week’s NFL matchup vs the Chicago Bears, building up a 41-10 fourth-quarter lead.
However, the Packers’ D coughed up 15 points in the final frame, showing this contender’s major weakness. If Green Bay wants to be taken seriously in the playoffs, the defense needs to rise to the occasion.
6. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+1200)
Tom Brady’s Buccaneers have lost consecutive games and stand at 7-5. Tampa Bay lost back-to-back home games to the Los Angeles Rams and Chiefs, by the identical score of 27-24. The Bucs are loaded with talent at all of the skill positions, but the offensive line is mediocre.
Brady is finally showing his age and doesn’t have the mobility to offset the deficiencies of the O-line. Wouldn’t it be really cool for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to play in a Super Bowl hosted in its own stadium? Yes, but the offensive line has to find a way to succeed going forward. Also, the Bucs would likely need to defeat the Saints to reach the SB, and we’ve seen how that goes. New Orleans has dominated Tampa in 2020, already having earned the season sweep.
